stretching springs?

So I've a question,

is there any reason why I couldn't pop a switch apart, take the spring, and pull on it and stretch it out and that would give it a more stiff resistance?

( obviously its impossible to do a full board and make the rate consistant, but for a one off key? )

Why would that make it stiffer? I think that's bad for the spring.

The spring rate shouldnt change just because you stretch it out. Short term it might feel heavier but you'll either mess up the coils or the plastic deformation will sit the spring back into its original form

yeah, i guess long term it would just go back to its original spring rate.

These are the things I think about when I'm at work all day.
