Mechanical Keyboard in UK for Mac?
« on: Mon, 14 October 2013, 05:22:54 »
Hi,

I'm new to this forum and the world of mechanical keyboards. I recently bought a Cherry G80 for one of my work's computers and I'm happy with it. I'm now looking to get a mechanical keyboard for use with my Macbook Pro 13inch that I have in a docking station at home. I'm looking for some advice on products that will meet the following requirements:

- UK layout of keys
- Mac keys (cmd, function for brightness, audio controls etc)

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

GR

In my exprience most modern USB mechanical keyboards will work fine with a mac.
The functionality of the modifier keys (Windows etc) are simply converted to the CMD function. If are asking specifically about the keycaps that say CMD etc, I have seen sets with them in it. Otherwise there are complete keyboards that are "specifically made for mac" like the das:

Then there's this one, aka the modern extended apple keyboard: http://matias.ca/tactilepro3/

I don't think the daskeyboard has a UK iso layout, but the matias one does.

Good luck.

Thanks for your advice. Both keyboards look good but they are pretty pricey.

Does anyone know where I can get some key caps for the Cherry G80 in the UK so that I can have some of the Mac's function keys on show?

Thanks

Are you dependent on buying them within the UK? if so I think that may be a bit hard.

Otherwise just google mac cherry mx keycaps and you'll find what you need. Most are in ABS/POM though, so be aware of that. Personally I loathe ABS. POM is fine and PBT is pure sex.
