Dear Diary
« on: Tue, 15 October 2013, 13:40:40 »
I caught Chad looking at me today. He looked away quickly like he was embarrassed or something, I talked to Jennifer about it and she says that it probably means he likes me. I don't know what to believe anymore. Diary, why are you the only one that understands me?

Not that you give a ****.

After ordering a cherry mx sampler kit, I can clearly see that the topres on the hhkb are a more stable switch, with a smoother actuation, and a pleasant bottom out. The cherrys seem rough and a little gritty through the press, and the tactile switches (mostly blue) felt light and cheap. As for keycap quality, PBT just feels so much more solid, like it has a lower resonance frequency or something.

One thing that really changed the tides for me, though, was typing on this keyboard with music blasting. Turns out I hate how this keyboard sounds. I don't care if it has a "pleasant thunk", I don't want to hear it. I'm trying to work, and it gets repetitive and obnoxious. Also, not hearing it made pressing the keys feel all the better. Way better. Now I know to plug my ears and close my eyes if I want to really feel out a new keyboard.

Try it right now. It feels so good.

My point is a cherry switch mounted on a keyboard will feel much different than a single sample switch, also if it's plate or pcb mounted it will feel different and there are PBT cherry caps as well as other materials that feel very nice. I prefer GMK ABS double shots personally.

Why not a Topre sub-forum?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. Thorpe!!!

I seriously don't understand the long tradition with naming Topre as "Thorpe". I guess it must be related to the sound it makes when one punches the keys.

Besides.. It's actually called 東プレ which translates to romaji as Toupure. -_-"

uh, another topre thread

Seriously people, we need to combine all the Topre-butthurt threads into a single thread.  We already have Clack Therapy, now it seems we need Thopre Therapy...

I have somewhat yet to hear one having issues with Cherry MX requiring more force to register a key press. There's already a thread about Topre based keyboards requiring more force after around five years worth of wear and tear. You know if there's no dramas with Cherry MX after more than five years you could somewhat rub that in to Topre owners haha. Afterall Cherry MX are fairly popular over Topre.

Oh yeah and source (for Topre wearing out after/around five years of wear and tear):

Haha I really don't know. I've been sort of lurking on the forum before registering and spilling the beans on my purchases well before wanting to have everything here (hardware-wise) and then spilling the beans. I've just been looking through a fair few old threads and it just seems like "Thorpe" seems to be used quite alot.

Since you will just be continually trolled I will tell you where it came from. Recently a new member made yet another "what does Topre feel like", or maybe it was "topre versus mx". Anyway, he called it Thorpe. And so it began.

And uh....wtf is this thread about again?

Yeah I saw a thread about that. I don't have my Topre keyboard yet so I can't comment. Though lol I guess it's probably a little similar to the thread here. Maybe there's *ahem* Topre butthurt people here...

Anyway thanks for the info. Though you know it's kinda funny. Topre vs Cherry MX, two different countries backing the name yet the seem to get all the nicest remarks about the products coming out (not the keyboard itself just the actual hardware behind it).
