How many posts needed to post in classifieds?
« on: Wed, 16 October 2013, 16:05:42 »
How many posts?  I've been lurking around geekhack for a while now but don't really post too often.  I would hate to post just for the sake of posting.

The point is to encourage engagement with the community and to encourage trading with community members. Not to race to get as many posts as you need to dump your items onto us and bounce.

I do agree, somewhat. This is why I chose not to partake of the stars. But I just can't get rid of it...

Careful what you say - someone might give you a star out of, well, out of something, the word escapes me for the moment.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Was my post off-topic? I thought it was relevant.  :)

I just want to post in the classifieds instead of finding 60 random things to say. It's kind of a silly rule that just promotes more junk in threads.

Your post was IN off-topic therefore it didn't count.

Alsobi I dont think it is a silly rule, it stops people rocking up and scamming or at least makes it harder.

I tell you I won't buy off a guy with 1 post, I wouldn't buy from a guy with 60 either when theyre all "haha" "lol"

It is to encourage people to participate in the Geekhack community.

You can post "nice" in every media thread you can find, but people will pretty quickly notice and you are likely to get a warning or be banned for that.

When buying something, people like to know that the person they are buying from will be around for a while, and/or is known in the forum.

I can understand it for people needing to be known in the forum, but I have a hard time posting garbage information just for the heck of it. I don't mind participating in the community, but being fairly new to mech keyboards, I don't have a lot to add.

I WOULD, however, like to post some "LF" ads in the classifieds. Maybe if I get my hands on some of the stuff I'm looking for, I can add more to the discussion.  :)  Also, thanks for letting me know that posting in "off-topic" doesn't count...I probably would have gone around posting about movies, gaming peripherals, and music preferences wondering why my post count wasn't going up.

I'm not encouraging spamming but it's really not hard to get to 60 posts especially if you give it some time, say a month. You only have to post 2 posts a day, that is super easy.

I'm not particularly happy with the 60-post rule either, but I don't know of a better system.  What we want to avoid is people joining the board only to buy or sell, then disappearing.  Access to the classifieds is supposed to be for community members only.

I've been on since early 2012 and have 17 posts.  Probably because I'm old, not too social and mostly looking for information.  ( I miss Ripster in that regard).  I guess I need to step it up so I can sell some of the stuff I bought from the geek hack classifieds.  No hurry though, I have owned and been typing on mechanical keyboards since early eighties.  60 posts might take me a while.

Time limit? eg 60 days? (IMO 90 days is too long)
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)
