[Wanted] 6x 80g springs for community switch try
« on: Wed, 06 November 2013, 12:28:42 »
I got a Tipro a while ago that I was planning on turning into a switch try, but somewhere along the line I forgot about it and it just became a cap holder.  So I want to revive the plan to make one.  Once it's up and going, I plan on having a tour of it.

I believe I have enough Blacks and vintage Blacks on hand, should have enough Clears, and have a pair of Reds.  So I'm looking for 6-8 Blues, 1 or 2 Greens, 6-8 Browns, and 6-8 Whites.  If anyone has what they consider an excellent vintage Black specimen, I'd love to include it since I have a hard time discerning what makes vintage Blacks so awesome from my samples.  I think 1-2 Red and Green switches should be good since they're the same as Black and Blue, just different color and spring.  Less common switches would be nice, but I think I'd like to keep it to the more common so that it's more of a try before you buy or mod switch test.  6-7 of each would be good so I can do 45g, 55g, 62g, 65g, 67g, and 80g springs in them or less common gold springs if anyone has any.

Spring wise, I should have enough 65g and 67g springs on hand, so I'm looking for small quantities of 45g, 55g, 62g, and 80g springs.

Any help on this would be great.  Free is great since I'll be turning it into a community switch try, but I don't mind paying a reasonable price for stuff, paying for your shipping, or making some small trades for stuff.

For easier reading, list of what I'm looking for:

- 6-8x MX Blues - Thanks CPTBadAss!

- 6-8x MX Browns Thanks jonathanyu!

- 6-8x MX Whites - if this is too hard to get or too expensive to give up, I'd be more than happy with 1-4 of them, just enough to include one or have a couple of the major spring differences sampled. Thanks goobus!

- 1-2x MX Greens - Thanks eyesmiles!

- Maybe 1 prime "vintage" Black example since my fingers have a hard time telling the difference - Thanks Photoelectric!

- 5x 45g springs - Thanks Photoelectric!

- 6x 55g springs Thanks yicaoyimu!

- 6x 62g springs - Thanks Photoelectric!

- 6x 80g springs - Thanks WhiskeyTango!

Ah you have everything that I have!  Good luck with this though.  Maybe you could try and get ahold of some of those Kihua switches from Taiwan?

Most those caps are long gone...in fact I think all of them are.  I just want to revive the project.

Are you talking about the salmon/pink switches?  I would actually love to get some of those and include them in the switch try.  Maybe I should contact the person who was showing them on GH....

Ahh, the ones on the Zalman mechs.  Yeah, those might be interesting to include as well.

I'm not a fan of including imitations. These guys haven't proven their value. The problem with trying out imitations is that quality isn't apparent from pressing on the switch a few times. A lot of the value and quality of a switch is linked to reliability over long periods of usage. EG you want a key to actuate correctly even after having spent 1000 hours furiously gaming on the keyboard.

Kailh and the other imitation brands haven't been in the business long enough, and it's quite common to read about their keyboards failing after barely a few months.

Ahh, the ones on the Zalman mechs.  Yeah, those might be interesting to include as well.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

I'm basically looking for one for each Black, Clear, Blue, White, and Brown switch, so I'll say 6 or so so I have an extra or two if need be.

I have an extra Grey that I'm not using right now that I'll include on the Tipro, depending on space.  A Dark Grey would be awesome, but they're really uncommon and, again, it comes down to the space. I'd love to include some of the less common switches like that if I have the space to do so on the try, but I'm not sure if I'll have the space.

I sure do.  I probably only need 5 of the 45g springs since I think they'll be way too light for a Clear, even a Krytox lubed Clear.

I have Blue switches if you still need those.

I do, that would be awesome.

And both of you let me know if you need/want a couple of bucks for them, shipping, and so on.

Okay, 5 x 45g (those are from Originative).  I'll drop them in the mail after you confirm.  No need for shipping--you already did me a favor with LEDs :)

Awesome, thanks.  Just confirming so I can update the OP, 5x 45g, 6x 55g, and 6x 62g from you?  Do you need my shipping info or do you have it from the package?  I can PM you that if you do.

Oh, I can do 5 of 45g and 6 62g, but I only have 2 55g springs :(  Good thing you asked.  I think I need your address again!  PM's a good idea.

Still looking for some MX Browns, MX Whites, 55g springs, 80g springs, and if you're a vintage Black proselyte, what you consider a prime example of a vintage Black since my fingers are not discerning enough.  If I can't get all the Whites I'd like, I'll settle for one or two and be glad to have some other less common MX switches like an MX Lock, clicky Grey, knock offs, and so on.

I'm willing to pay shipping and a couple of bucks to compensate you for your costs, though I'd love free since I'm planning on making this a community switch try and it might ultimately end up in the hands of one of the Keepers of the Faith.

I should have some extra whites after my phantom build. It'd be a while away, but if they are around and you still want them, they're yours.

Darn.  In any case, I'm very grateful for the springs.  I'm looking forward to getting the switch try all prepped and ready to go.

Thanks.  Hopefully I'll stumble into a few before then, but, if not, that would be awesome.

And Photoelectric decided to send me one or two choice vintage Blacks.  So now it's just Browns, Whites, and 55g and 80g springs.

The Greens came yesterday from eyesmiles.

Now I just need:

- 80g springs

- any less common switches (aside from linear greys) someone may want to send

I'd like to get it done by the end of the month, but if it takes longer, it takes longer.  If it will be a while before anyone can get me at least one, I might just fork over too much to get a couple from 7bit.

Awesome! Thanks so much.  I'll PM you that info and update the OP when I get home.  Let me know if you'd like me to cover the shipping cost.

If it's a tactile grey, one would be interesting to add.  I have a linear grey already that I'll be adding to it.

Still need that handful of 80g springs if anyone is willing to part with a few.  I'd rather not have to buy a full pack off of Originative since they'll go to waste, but will if I have to.
