Crude spacebar fix for my Model M

This was my solution at the time to fix the spacebar on my Model M. It was originally supposed to be a temp fix but it's been holding together for over 2 years now.

It's a 6/32(1/8" diam) screw with a 5/64" hole drilled through for the stabilizer bar.

In the 4th pic you can see a very slight bump on the front face where I just about ran the screw through.

This was a store room find that started with this and turned into a bolt mod.

I still have my old broken space bar - have to try to remember this in case one of the good ones also breaks.

You try doing that with the modern thin keycaps you get these days!

This was my main thought when going through the process.
Also, I was lucky it was this end. I'm still not sure how I would've worked around the other end being broken.
I still should look into a proper replacement. This fix added a lot of metallic noise. It is noticeably louder than the other keys. Not like it really matters with this board anyway. Just added one more trumpet to the marching band I suppose.

Very nice.  Could probaby use nylon machine screws to quiet it.
