Since I have to nitpick with photo editing, it's not contrast to get that result.  You have to adjust the brightness with a miniscule contrast adjustment and then do some major curves or levels editing.  Curves is quicker.  Straight contrast edits still give you something completely unviewable.

These are definitely cool. I'm really curious if bro started doing this before or after demik mentioned black reapers lol. However, I am still hoping to get my hands on a purple BBv2. Black < Purple.
