New Bluetooth 4.0 mice from Mad Catz (makers of RAT series)
« on: Thu, 12 December 2013, 11:25:15 »
MOUS 9 (full size)

http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/maus9.htm

RAT M (mini)

http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/ratm.htm

Very intriguing. I've still got my old RAT 7 (1st gen, can't use it cuz it has the bad sensor), and I love the design. But I find it odd that the MOUS 9 is stuck at 990dpi, of all things.

Not so sure about new, but I hadn't seen them before, and I try to stay current on mice developments. These may have slipped through the cracks.

Dunno how much you can do with software, but from the specs it seems like it's locked at low dpi and polling rate to save on power, but idk why they locked it. Maybe because it's easier and cheaper to make? Anyway, if I used my laptop more I'd probably consider getting one of them, but I already have a RAT7 that works just fine for desktop use.

Yeah looks like they're fairly old then. Must not be anything special if they've stayed under the radar this long.

The sensors are low end. No good.

The sensors are low end. No good.

The MOUS9 has a 990DPI (?!?) single laser sensor, the RatM has a Philips Twin Eye (same as RAT7).
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

It's not a low end sensor in the M.o.u.s.9, it's an ultra high efficiency sensor, designed to work on glass. That mouse runs on a single AA battery for up to a year (good luck with that).

Also, glossy mouse? No.
Dust and fingerprint magnet (you won't buy a DAS for that reason but a mouse is okay?), but even more importantly, the gloss means less grip.

I've found that gloss and grip all depends on your skin. With clean hands, gloss is a nightmare, but with slightly damp/sweaty palms, gloss can stick like glue. It's nice on mice like the DA or the Naga2012 with wide grip, since you can lift the mouse without really having to squeeze on it.
Not really a fan of gloss though, but it does have its uses, even if said uses is a bit unreliable since your skin needs to be in a certain condition for it to work.

Hate glossy finishes on mice, blech...

Still want to get a MMO7 in white though.

I have an older RAT3 and a new glossy white one. I actually prefer the feeling of the gloss one. Grip isn't an issue for me, I find I have similar grip levels with clean hands. The shape makes it easy move it and lift it (the thumb buttons on the left and pinkie grip on the right). The old one actually feels "dirty" (just the rougher texture) compare to the new.

I'm quite interested in the M, but I fear it will be too heavy for my taste (I like them as light as possible). Not sure what to think of the PTE sensor, but it's also a bit of a turn-off, would prefer the optical from the newer RAT3.
