So I just won the lottery, what keyboard should I get?
« on: Wed, 18 December 2013, 09:11:34 »
So I purchased a lottery ticket while I was visiting in San Jose, and it looks like I might have won.

So since money is no longer an issue, what keyboard should I buy?

Please. You don't have time for keyboards now that you are rolling in the $$$$. Focus on the high class things like expensive wine cellers, yachts with heli-pads and multiple high rise buildings.

Buy your buddy CPTBadAss a Kingsaver and a G80-5000. :P

Seriously though? I think you should get a custom like a KMAC2 or LZ-GH if you're into MX. A Realforce 10AE if you're into Topre. A Filco Zero/Kingsaver if you're into Alps. An 1391401, SSK, or AT F if you're into Buckling Springs. Binge's M15 looks cool as well.

I hear Topre is pretty good, so will the HHKB Type-S really do it for me, or is there something else I should go after?

You could have "won" with a ticket at $5 how much did you win?

I have a Dell RD for apprx. 5.6$
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

On the way to work this morning I was actually thinking "what would happen if a GHer won the lottery?"

My suggestion:

Buy Unicomp. Make SSKs.

If money left over, buy every mechanical you can get your hands on.

EDIT: And plz, buy me a Model F AT, a Topre board, and a Korean custom! :))

The Topre I liked best was the Realforce 10AE. I'm not that familiar with Topre but I think the Realforce 55g Uniforms would be similar.

Well you could buy a Type-S, a regular HHKB a couple realforce 55g boards and give them all a spin and if you decided you could mod them also.

Sounds like if money is no object, I should be looking for something in the Topre realm, however that Datahand sounds promising

Ok so that's 2 for the HHKB Type-S. Are they really solidly built, or should I buy a few thousand just in case one of them breaks?

You just invest your money wisely: Pay someone to create a custom case and pcb to make a new Model F with the layout of your choice. you could make one with a 60% layout, one with an ergodox/acidfire/ergosplithandniceness and maybe one with a bigger layout. For sure, the built quality should be AT LEAST as good as an original model F and weight at least 6 pounds for the 60%.

So if money were no object, how does everyone feel about some Model F development. I have to agree the Model F's I own are much better to type on then my Model M's IMO.

It would be a good opportunity to get rid of guns, everyone would be armed and dangerous anyway, carrying their model F around. So you could also win the Nobel for peace, and another one for Health, getting rid of RSI and other "typing" diseases!

When someone receives a windfall of a huge amount of cash, they don't spend it, they invest it. At that point, they no longer have to work for money - their money works for them. They can probably live comfortably off the dividends of their wise investments, without the expenditure of the original sum. :)

When it comes to investments, more risk = greater potential reward, but with the caveat that the original asset may be lost, if there is a downturn. That's why you diversify your investment portfolio, with investments of varying degrees of risk.

FYI, keyboards probably aren't a great investment opportunity. Keyboard manufacturing could be, at least in the short term.

As to the original question, get a custom tuned keyboard. Metal housing, individually selected switches, etc.

I'm actually a licensed broker, however I don't really do anything with it (I work in IT now). Presently, I'm mainly wanting to "invest" my time in keyboards.

I've often thought IF I won millions I would still come to work just like always....I'd go crazy being at home.

IF I won millions, I'd buy my way into a party college and have fun.

Then I'd buy a house, and a trip to the moon.

haha millions just don't cut it anymore...I want billions

Oh, and for a mere $95,000, you can buy a ticket (pre-order) for a ride into (sub-orbital) space. XCOR will be moving to our neighboring city, Midland, TX.
