GMK and costar stabilizers
« on: Thu, 26 December 2013, 00:55:53 »
I recently bought a set of dolch keycaps from gmk and can't seem to get the spacebar to work smoothly. It is noisier than with the stock keycaps and seems to have more of a rattle. I have seen a few people using filcos and quickfires with the gmk sets and am wondering if you guys have any ideas.

thanks

Try putting some seran wrap or a plastic bag in the stab so they fit better in the keycaps.

Have you got Costar or Cherry stabilisers?

If Coster, make sure the stabiliser inserts are inserted all the way, and I'd use a small square of plastic ziplock sandwich bag if they are loose.

If Cherry, just make sure that the space bar is not warped, and that it is pressed on all the way.

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I have the same problem with my Olivetti set on my Filco.

Oddly enough, flipping the spacebar mostly fixed the problem.

Make sure your white inserts are full inserted first, too. If they're loose, the spacebar can get really noisy.

make sure the stabs are in the correct direction, i have 3 filco's with 3 different cherry profile sets and have had 0 trouble with any of them, other than the stab insterts being loose, just used some plastic on them to make them a tighter fit.

Hi,

Are there any pictures of videos showing how this mod is done? ziplock bags seem to be way too huge for the keycaps...

I asked the same question not long ago

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=52342.msg1159587#msg1159587

the suggestion worked somewhat for me but not entirely fixed my problem and the tape fell off easily.

Thanks

You just cut a small piece out to fit over stabilizer insert.

You just cut a small piece out to fit over stabilizer insert.

I cut about 1cm square of ziplock sandwich bag.  Fits neatly without obstructing anything, easily removed, doesn't tear (as paper would) when you insert the stabiliser thingies.
