I spent $400 to have a Dck Legend with MX clears imported
seriously, how you people manage to do this amazes me
The most I have spent on an OEM board was 190 and that was my poker 2 and the acrylic case for it

my HHKB was 400$ with import charges
My HHKB was actually cheaper than my poker lol

RIP

This thread should have been allowed to rest in peace :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Try living in a country which is not US or Korea :)
Or Russia.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

$573, that's it?

lol that's cute!

hahaha i was about to say the exact same thing!

on a positive note though... i did buy a cheap filco 2nd hand for 60, a set of clear switches for 53. adding to that the cost of new pbt keycaps and duty on top of that, all in all a filco with clears clost me 180ish. and i found that i got it super cheap. no cost modding as i did the labor myself.

My GON totaled $590 unassembled and depending on how a deal goes I may beat that soon.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

this converted to a brag how much you have spent on one keyboard thread. I cant be worse.

I spent 600 on a lz-fe , planning on new switches, new springs and some new leds. Are we counting keycaps into the equation?

You could. It's what I did. :D

I'll do some calculations on my current board.
ItemCost
Orion set€354
SkiData keyboard for parts€91
Originative 'Charred Orange'€62
Transparent keytops€31
Stabilizers & Stickers€26
USB cable€27
Noko Wrist Rest€165
Acrylic Inserts€20
Various small parts & shippings€75
Total€880
(all prices in €)

Now that includes multiple shipping costs for all the parts and import duties and I included some extraneous parts (no, it's mandatory) like the wrist rest.
That still leaves us with an *gulp* $1100,- keyboard...  :))
Granted, you could take off €350 or so without the wrist rest and caps but it just wouldn't be the same.
Besides, with the addition to this setup that I'm planning it will break the €1000 barrier.  :))

Revival of the money threads :D

Noko was $170 because of the extensive carving on that one. That and I got hit with a hefty customs charge.
But just like some people will pay big money for that one special novelty cap, I didn't mind it at the time. It was the thing that sets it apart from the other Orions.
If you see that wrist rest you will instantly know it is mine.

Since the keyset is a combination of the original SkiData and the Charred Orange set, I do count them. It have me the option to pick and choose those special or best looking keys from both.
Though I wouldn't mind a rerun of that colourway. ;)

Why did I link this thread in Skype...
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Granted you've been picking up a lot of rubber dome boards lately, cuts down on expenses  :thumb:

My Poker 2 will be up there.

Board: $142 (darn MX Clear option)
Case: $111
Granite DSA: $134 (lotta extra caps)
Cable: $20

just over $400. That's if I don't count any artisans I decide I want on the board...can't wait for the case and caps though.
