Cherry top removal tool
« on: Wed, 12 March 2014, 16:56:25 »
I really want some dedicated tool for taking cherry MX switches apart. Does a tool like that even exist? Right now I'm using this tool which I made myself with the help of this guide here: http://www.kbdmania.net/xe/tipandtech/3520312 they work well, but I find them very fragile and they don't fit to well in the holes on the switch.

If you know of some better tool or an easy alternative way to remove the top of the switches please enlighten me!

Angled tweezers can work too.  You can use two angled tweezers on both ends of the switch, or unlock one side of the switch, hold that opening, and then unlock the other side with the same tweezer.

This video demonstrates it with one tweezer:

Maybe it was my tool, but I found that the binder clip switch tool worked way better than the_beast switch tool I bought a while back.  I sold it because I wasn't all that happy with it.  I may have just got one that didn't have the right angle on it.  I know that that was an issue with one production run of them.

What do you mean?

He either meant "it is coming soon" or Titanium (switch tools) are coming soon.   :p

The original switch tools were made of stainless steel, but this time it'll be made out of Titanium!
