Any talk radio listeners?
« on: Mon, 07 April 2014, 20:30:24 »
I tend to tune into my local NPR stations on my way to and from work, I find they keep me awake more than the same 4 songs music stations play over and over and over.

And apparently, I'm an old man because of it according to my co-workers (which are all older than me).

No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

I started listening to NPR as well. It has a bit too much doom and gloom for me though, like most news, but overall it's not bad.

I have listened to NPR regularly for years.

That right-wing **** makes me vomit.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.

Screaming liberal, huh?  I thought curmudgeons couldn't be liberals.

But really, the right wing stuff is so full of hate, fear, and negativity that it will make you despise everything.

The voices in my head provide a consistent banter, so talk radio is not necessary.

I listen to a lot of NPR.  Either of radio in my car or podcasts.  It's good stuff.  I also listen to BBC World Service.

It makes me sad that there are so many people running around who view NPR as some kind of liberal-biased fountain of lies.    Its difficult to find a collection of people anywhere else who are actually trying to make my state better through straightforward discussions with experts and the community.  Instead people go circle-jerk to some conservative show that exists solely to incite outrage.  So negative.

why did you listen to it then?
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Occasionally I am forced to visit my wife's parents, and her father watches it on TV all the time.

Both my brothers follow it as if it were real.

Also, there is the "you won't believe what "X" said about "Y" as if it were true"

so I can't escape at least hearing about some of the more egregious examples.

I listen to BBC Radio 4 (UK station). Very chattering classes subject matter a lot of the time, like the plight of some indigenous ethnic group in the face of industrialisation or small scale organic farming or some other crap no-one cares about. Still better than commercial radio with awful music and 80% of the airtime filled with ads and phone-in competitions though.

Yeah, but depending on your local station, they have very good shows.

I love listening to wait wait don't tell me (usually to catch up on the news in a "fun" way), cartalk, press play, airtalk (this dude plays a ton of "underground" hip hop beats whenever transitioning into other topics/pause breaks, i love it), moth radio hour, all things considered, TED Radio hour.. just, NPR has a ton of good shows.

And, I've actually learned quiet a lot of random information from listening to my local station.

Yeah, I don't know for sure how I started listening to NPR but I'm pretty sure it was because I got tired of the crap commercial radio and must have accidentally dialed in.

Yup, my boss is Republican and whenever I bring up NPR he just glares at me. I'm like dude, there is a show called left right and center that actually has civil discussions from opposing views instead of just leaning left or right.

I get all my news from a homeless guy on the corner.  He screams the news at the passersby.  I've learned a lot from that guy.  You'd be surprised who really killed JFK, and the real reason why the aliens want to probe your anus.  I tip him a few bucks every now and again, to support his news gathering operation.

I listen to "Wait Wait, don't tell me"

That used to be OK when the panel was better, but recently it has become unbearable.

I love "Car Talk" but Tom and Ray retired and there hasn't been a new show in years.

I've been listening to NPR/WPR for the past year or so. I quite like the news and all the radio shows they have. Not huge on the classical music, but I can listen to it for a bit.

I do agree about the new panel, although Bobcat is hilarious in how little he knows.
