External Battery Pack/Charger for Phones/Tablets
« on: Thu, 08 May 2014, 07:11:36 »
I've seen a few of these show up for sale on some sales forums recently and it's something I think would be a good thing to have around.

My wife is always having to charge her phone, so if the power is ever out for any amount of time etc her phone is going to need an alternate power source and in general being prepared for when your away from wall power is especially handy for the kids tablet etc.

Anyone have any experiences to share and/or recommendations on what has worked for you?

Get something with PowerIQ, like the 2nd Gens. They're great. Read about them. I have the 2nd Gen Astro Pro and love it.

I might not be in the norm these days, but I charge more than iDevices. And I always like to have the ability to help someone else with a charge should they be in need. Thus something that works best for iDevices and doesn't for anything else isn't for me. That's why I liked the Anker PowerIQ. Works best for everything.

ok here's the skinny on these things.

there's an influx of them, these lipstick chargers.

go on amazon and you'll find many like this

lipstick charger

it's the shape of a lipstick, usually it's 2600mAh, and costs between 9bucks to 15bucks

99% of them accept a micro usb to charge, and they have standard usb connecters to connect any device.

these will charge 1 iphone/galaxy s3 probably 1 and 1/2 times.

pretty much they are all the same, it's a big 1 cell lithium ion battery that has a tiny circuit board soldered on one end.

fancier models will have a flash light.

now if you want to charge an ipad(tablet)

you'll need at least 5000mAh, imo, also you have to look for the AMP output.

look for

1a and 2.1a

like this

10kmAh charger

this will usually give you 2 ipad charges

plus these models will also have power indicators, telling you how much charge is left, some more expensive ones will have a LCD display.

if you need more power, just pay more, it's also heavier

i have a galaxy s3

i always leave with a spare fully charged battery in my pocket.

if i'm on a weekend trip, i'll bring the lipstick charger for more power.

if i'm on a longer trip i bring the 12kmAh charger.

also don't forget, you can buy (gaming device) usb chargers. my ds/3ds/psp are all usb charged, you can buy cables for like 5bucks each.

i paid 10bucks for my lipstick charger

and 25bucks for my 12k charger, both work fine.

I have a Nokia DC-19.
3200 mAh and a 1100mAh charging speed.

As I have a phablet I hardly ever need it but my girlfriend steals it from me all the time.
