Perixx Keyboard/Mouse Matt
« on: Mon, 12 May 2014, 20:32:37 »
I picked this up recently:

It is made of good matterial. It is not completely smooth but has more of a fiber texture to it. The reason I got it was because I liked the Razer XXL mouse matts but hated all the branding. I purchased a few that ended up made of cheaper material until I got this one. The color is like a deep black too resembling the great quality. It has hemmed edges so there is no fraying which is a huge plus, trust me.

Anyway, it also keeps the keyboard very steady and muffles any kind of sounds typing on a keyboard that is on the desk nakedly would make.

I just figured I'd share. It's cheap and not only makes typing a joy, but adds a sleek layer to the setup.

Have you used other large mouse matts before and what comparable mouse pad would you describe the mouse glide of the Perixx as?

Good question as I was wondering that myself before I took the plunge to see for myself. I would say that the feel of the pad is similar to that of the Razer Goliathas Control edition. However, it is not as rough as that. It is a tad smoother. At first, I was hoping it would be like the control edition Razer Goliathus but I actually like this material better.

The other large mouse matts I have used are the Razer Goliathus speed and control edition; XTrac Ripper XXL, several different hard mouse pads (one from Staples and one from Razer) and another one from another company I forget the name of as I returned it immediately due to it's shape.

Most XXL mouse matts I have tried usually use the age old cloth from the old school mouse pads which I guess is cheaper. Very few companies use a quality material and even less hem the edges. The reason why I think a material like this is important is due to ware. My other matts would start to get faded or white in certain areas. This pad gets a bit white from oils and all I do is take a dry towel and wipe it with some pressure and it looks like new.

Just to give you an example as to the material and the color where you can especially see the difference is in a picture here. The XTrac I keep under it was flipped so the part I am comparing it to is not faded and side of the Perixx is the same end my wrists go. The lighting is also not great and the difference is more prominent in real life. So sorry for the Potatoe shot, I'll take a Nikon shot tomorrow for you if you need.

IMO the purpose of a desk sized mat is just to keep things organized and your desk protected. When I game I put a dedicated pad on top

Yep, I'm definitely going to do that. I still want the pad to be smooth though on days when I have to wash my other pads and let em dry.

Thanks alot, that helps me quite a bit!
I was considering getting one of these (Perixx) among Razer, Xtrac and Corsair.
I'm guessing the Xtrac uses your typical run of the mill mousepad material so it's got more drag and is slow. Does this pad glide faster than the Razer Speed (I've never used this myself but I've heard it's somewhat speedy)?

Does the Perixx DX-1000 vs DX-2000 use different surfaces?

The 1000XL is a different material (not as textured) and does not have the hemmed seams. (2000XL is the newer model).

As for using a dedicated pad, you could do that I guess, but I love the way my mouse feels over the matt. The metal pads wear the mouse feet too fast, need replacing faster and provide an odd glide to me that makes me cringe with the chills sometimes. The material on the pad I have is just as good, if not better than what you will find on any soft "gaming" mouse pad or the like.

The feel of gliding my mouse is smooth, but not too slippery like the generic cloth and I get an experience I can only describe as 'soft' with control. My pointing accuracy is flawless with it. I never really liked the super smooth texture found on pads like the Razer Goliathus speed edition. Besides feeling cheap to me, I like having a slight texture. It's hard to explain but I hope this helps.

I think I get what you mean.
So the Goliathus speed is too smooth and slippery for you, so it doesn't have the control you like and the Perixx is not as smooth and easier to stop.

It's interesting how you both said you don't like smooth cloth pads.

It's funny because I've always considered cloth pads to be too "grippy" and not slippery (smooth) enough and hard pads as being too slippery, so I've always wanted a fast cloth pad like the Artisan Hayate. I think part of this is because I started with a QCK which is a very slow pad so my impression of clothpads has always been "too slow".

Yeah, you get what I'm saying.

However, I think this pad is the perfect mix of smooth for glide and texture so it doesn't feel cheap or heat treated. This pad is weaved so it might just be the higher quality that is making it feel less like the slippery ones.

I tested the pad by lowering the sensitivity of the mouse through windows than raised the DPI through Razer's utility to see how responsive it would be at all levels. I can confirm that the responsiveness is on point and no matter which way you like to play, the mouse glides to perfect precision.

I'm not sure if you have Amazon Prime, but this is available through it so you could always try it and return it if you don't like it. I doubt you'll return it though.

Reminds me.
I still need to pick between an Xtrac or 1000xxl.
Need that length to accommodate my mousepad

They are not the same. The 2000 is made with different material and has hemmed seams. The 1000 is made with a smoother surface.

I also have the DX-2000 at home and the comparable Razer product at work. I like both; the Razer feels a bit rougher and I like the design, but overall I have a slight preference for the Perixx DX-2000.

I've just bought this because I want a large surface and I'm kind of obsessing over the colour of my build... I've changed my GPUs on my shopping list about five times so far.

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Looks pretty good.  How many different colors does it come in?

{EDIT}  I found the other colors  :)

Yeah, quite a few, and it looks massive.

INTL shipping is pretty extortionate though, but I think it's the closest I'm going to get to what I really want.
