ok having just capped up my board, i have a few things to say about the set
i guess i should start by saying this is a positive statement, but i have to start by voicing a few negative thoughts i had going in
so i didnt pay a lot of attention to this buy, i just glanced at it and ordered, perhaps thinking in the back of my head i wish the mods were both text and symbols, but that being a personal aesthetic choice, it isnt a negative, just not what i would have preferred
that being said, i never took the time to actually look at the keys in this buy, or any discussion about them
so on receipt of them today, i decided to give my dyesubs a rest and pop em on my 356 mini, the first thing i noticed is on a 60% format, the symbol only look came out nicer than i expected, and i guess in a world where we have OG dolch and former gmk dolch buys, its nice that ivan decided to buck against the trend and do this, i still prefer both text and symbols for future stuff, but i think for this set it was a good choice. my one and only negative i would still say about this choice, is that i wish it transferred over to the colour pack as well, so that my nice cyan enter key matched the rest of the mods, i guess the reasoning behind this was so that the colour pack would work with pre existing sets, but as i purchased it with this set i would have liked the theme to be consistent throughout
now on to what really made me actually write this post, upon capping up this set, i realised what a fantastic implementation there was for the iso keys with standard legends, i literally cant sing the praises of this choice enough, and it feels almost custom made for my usage scenario, i am an ansi user, i use an ansi layout on my boards however i live in the UK, the trouble with this, is even when setting my keyboard settings in windows to ansi US, some site and apps do some strange things, where they will force certain keys to be iso even on an ansi layout, this is rare but frustrating when it happens, " and @ are often switched
i guess im not good at getting my point across but the short of it is, those few keys showed a ton of thought, and for myself or uk guys in particular, i think they are just great, not only is it cost effective and saves on making a bunch more keys that very few people will use, i actually think within our community this solution is more useful and elegant, aesthetically to me they are very pleasing
that one little thought for me turned this from a set i ordered simply to support gmk buys on gh, to one i actually really like and wont just sit in a bag in my cupboard, the only thing i would change would be the colour packs mod legends to be uniform to the set, but that is a very minor gripe, on an otherwise outstanding set
