Is it dead?
« on: Thu, 12 June 2014, 13:15:44 »
I received my keyboard DOA, it originally didn't light up, but now it does (the picture makes them look like they're off, but they are on). Does anything look weird? It uses a PS2 interface, will a ps2 to usb adapter work?

Any input appreciated,
-Seb

Yes,an usb to PS/2 converter will work. Have you tried it om another PC?

Would try to find a pc with ps/2 or an usb to ps/2 converter so you can test it on another computer. Maybe a friend or a familiy member has a pc with ps/2.

Why is the toggle of the LED's important?

it would indicate if it is functional.  just because the LEDs have power doesnt mean the board will work. i have seen many boards die in different ways.  usually not mechs though..

Simple check: are you rebooting your computer with the keyboard already plugged in?  PS2 is generally not plug-and-play.

This is what's inside the stock MK had in November (photo from MK, with Xiang Min switches for comparison):

67920-0

The internals are unconfirmed, but I'd suggest Hua-Jie AK-C5 or AK-D5.

There is no confirmation (and may never be) of what was inside AK-C5 and AK-D5, but these two switches are good candidates:

The ones in the DSI have the matching diagonal numbers though. I am not sure what the deal is with those. AK-C5 and AK-D5 were replaced by AK-CN2 (2) and AK-DN2 (2), which are internally identical to Xiang Min KSB-C and KSB-N switches, and they have the diagonal numbers but in the opposite corners.

FWIW it's also interesting to see that this is confirmed as a having been a Strong Man keyboard.
