Took spacebar off Quickfire Rapid.  How does it go back on?

Do this in reverse.

The plastic inserts keep falling out when I try that.  The inserts don't look symmetrical either.  Does the longer part of the open area of the insert base point to the upper part of the keyboard or the lower part?

Longer part faces the top of your keyboard. They're not symmetrical. If you can't get the inserts to stay, get some tape or a plastic bag, cut little squares, then put them over the hole before you put the inserts back on.

Got it.  Thanks for the directionality and tip about something sticky.  I used a wee bit of blue tack.  Wheeeew!

Just be careful with that BlueTack. It can harden and it might be a pain to get out later. Paper, tape, and plastic bags all work nice and are easily removable later. But if it works, it works. :D

Kind of ugly compared to some I've seen around here but here's the end result of this project:69697-0

Nice. I keep feeling like "`~" and "\|" should be the contrast color. I have changed them on my M/Fs

Also, those secondary legends on the F keys seem out of character.

Yes you're right.  Made the change.   Also put the black space bar back on for practice and I actually like the looks of it better that way.   Just need the white keys for legibility.

It's done that way on standard alternating colors to keep actual enterable characters all one color, and modifiers all the other. It was intentionally about what each does.
