What switches are these ( old typwriter )
« on: Thu, 10 July 2014, 18:21:52 »
found this old typewriter at work and was wondering what kind of switch this thing has.

Feels kinda weird in a good way. smooth but kinda progressive feeling.

thick dub shot and even trip shot caps on it too.

Xerox 627 Memory-something ( text worn off )

oh cool, the keycaps are compatible with honeywell hall effect. do you mink taking a shot of the underside of a tripleshot one?

based on the slider, I'd guess that if it's not a rubber dome, it's some sort of spring over membrane or foam & foil.

I'd say it's likely a xerox memorywriter.

Looks like this one e.g.

Willing to take the whole thing apart and show us what’s inside? I’m curious whether other Memorywriters used hall effect switches; otherwise I can’t see a big reason to use compatible keycap mounts.

The keycaps look like they'll fit over hall effect switches.

The switches in the picture do not look like hall effect to me. I suspect slider over dome or spring over membrane, but it could also be foam&foil.

@jixr: thanks for taking the tripleshot picture for me! It's really rather different from the microswitch tripleshots. I wonder who made the keycaps for this.
