Bamboo wooden keyboard
« on: Sat, 02 August 2014, 03:50:23 »
Chinese webshops are 'taking' over the world. They ship free to Europe, it was in the Dutch newspaper this morning.
Got a look, but average keyboards. However, stumbled upon this bamboo keyboard:

It has a nice organic look, like something that would fit in on Gilligan's Island.  I would like to know what kind of switches are use.  It would be awesome if this keyboard would come in flamed Hawaiian Koa wood, flame maple, birdseye maple or spalted maple.

I have a bamboo keyboard/mouse combo. Exact same style as the one in that link but my keyboard is a smaller layout. They look nice but mouse is pretty terrible and the keyboard has disgusting domes. Wireless is fine for the keyboard but has trouble with the mouse sometimes.

I'd be worried about how much oil a keyboard like that would absorb from the fingertips.  It could get discoloured quite quickly.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I'm planning to get one. Keys seem to have nice audible feedback from wood.

Reading from reviews on amazon, the mice often just sucks, but don't need those anyway.

The brand Impecca seems to be reliable and keyboards are well-made for non-mechanicals. They do come in different colors:

Are they just rubberdomes?

It will be this one, wireless, rubberdome?, built-in battery:
http://www.amazon.com/Handcrafted-Wireless-Bamboo-Keyboard-Eco-friendly/dp/B009RCLS4O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406981577&sr=8-2&keywords=bamboo+keyboard

Or this one, bluetooth, chiclet?, normal batteries:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JDS59VK/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AAJWZD2PE6L8X

I like the orange one more, because it's from Impecca, has a steel plate. but the price is also higher. The other one has higher keys, and uses normal batteries
