Ducky Thick PBT White Keycaps(blank) are ugly

Hello

Just recieved Ducky Thick PBT White Keycaps(blank) from http://overclockers.co.uk/

On the top of them (i.e. where you put your fingers), there are clear marks of the cross where you fit them to your switch. (EDIT: Like either a 0.1mm'ish plateau / valley, barely able to feel it, yet it makes an ugly shadow.)

Is that normal? Looks very bad compared to my stock filco, is that the standard of pbt?

I don't suppose you have a camera of high enough quality to show some pictures of what you're talking about do you?

I'm considering getting ducky blanks in black and really hope they don't have this problem.

I have a few sets of ducky pbt blanks and never ran into this problem. Are you sure they are actual ducky caps?

Sounds like fakes. Mine don't have that issue (I have 4 sets).

Typically more common on longer keys such as Shift or Spacebar.  Poker II's thick PBT has them and some of the imsto PBT has them too.

I suspect it's from the shrinkage from what PBT cools down.  It's not unheard of just not sure how common it actually is.

I have the same issue with my Ducky THICK PBT (green w/ whites) laser engraved I got from massdrop on my Filco.
Notice the uneven surface of the white keycaps (sorry for the low quality pic).
Keycap 8 seems to be dented, and keycap J seems to have slight bump. The green keycaps that came with this set doesn't have this issue though.

I have the Gray/Blue etched Ducky PBT's and this is only noticeable on the spacebar. I also noticed it on the stock PBT spacebar of my Poker II as well. I've never seen this happen on ABS caps though.

It also happens on ABS keys. These are some (terrible) pictures of a stock Rosewill set. They are fairly used and it wasn't just the key I took pictures of that had the issue.

EDIT: The defects are probably visible on 90% of the keycaps, yet the spacebar is quite nice actually.

I bought my first set of PBT keycaps for Cherry MX - Leopold thick 1.5mm PBT, and they're great



also, my previous experience with PBT keycaps is with the legendary HHKB. I have two



either I've been very lucky with PBT keycaps coming out perfectly, or those Ducky keycaps are godawful.

Wow, that's disappointing. Even my el-cheapo blank white PBTs from BangGood don't look anything like that. Thank you for sharing, I know to avoid Ducky PBT now!
