cheapest custom printed keycaps?
« on: Tue, 09 September 2014, 03:52:58 »
Somewhere down the line I'll probably want to order 6 customized caps for LoL. What's the cheapest way to get this done?

Damn, didn't expect them to cost so much. Looks like I'll have to hold off for a while. On another note, is there anywhere I can get custom printed keycaps that also allow the LED to shine through?

If you mean with transparent legends, I can't think of anywhere that does such keycaps to custom order.

A few places sell backlight-friendly keycaps with specific designs on them - is there any design in particular you are seeking?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

There was a group buy or two for LoL keycap sets. You can put up a WTB in the classifieds and possibly find them. You have the post count necessary, but I think you need to be a member a little longer before you can post in there.

Yeah I came across those in my searches. I was hoping to have the images for the spells I use printed onto the caps though.

how many keys are you thinking?

wasdkeyboard sells individual customs for $6/ea if you buy 5 or more.

I've made a bunch of custom keycaps for people over on my shapeways shop: http://bit.ly/1sn5JLl
You could always drop me a line if you want some 3D printed caps. You can print in frosted plastic to allow LEDs to shine through and depending on the material/how many you order it could end up around the same price/cheaper than WASD.
