Full sized keyboard with num pad on left?
« on: Thu, 02 October 2014, 20:07:38 »
This may be a silly question, but why hast anyone made a full sized keyboard with the number pad on left. I think most users use their mouse with their right hand so why cant you have the benefits of being able to quickly reach your mouse and still have a full num pad. I'm sure it cant be that hard to get used to using a num pad with your left hand.

Again this may be silly ,but I find it remarkable nobody has at least attempted this.

There are a few older keyboards with left numpads. I know some company (one of the uber l33t gamers) makes one with a moveable numpad, but it's pretty ugly. With Sprit's 100% PCB the numpad is removable to be attached to be the left if you're somewhat technically adept

The now defunct Microsoft Sidewinder X6 had a modular numpad. It was a pretty decent rubber dome board. On the mechanical front, there's the DSI modular keyboard, which has a Mac layout but would be compatible with Windows. They sell a separate keypad for it that connects via USB. Their website only lists a model with Cherry MX Red switches, but you might be able to email them and ask if they have any other varieties. I recently bought an MX Brown keypad for use with my MacBook Pro and have been pretty happy with it.

TKL and separate numpad will give you the most options, IMHO.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

I prefer to have a separate numpad. For me, a full keyboard holds no advantages.

Besides, I can use the numpad layer on my tenkeyless keyboards (that I use both at work and at home) just as fast as I can use a numpad. I know the numpad layers are often referred to as a useless feature, but that is pure nonsense. Only if you never gotten used to it.
