Vintage MX blue switches, with amber Omrons for spacebar/enter, plus hawt 640x200 monochrome widescreen display, 8MHz CPU, and dual floppy drives!

Looks more appealing than the MSI one.

Way to ignore context. You wondered if there would be a market outside of gamers, I gave a thought as to why not. You said it was marketed to gamers, I gave a reason why.

Actually my post said if this had a market at all, although it seemed targeted at gamers.

What a weird combination. I guess green didn't exist yet, and Cherry wanted to charge too much to make some up.

I think I like the idea, but the execution is a little bit meh.

Also, a mechanical keyboard wouldn't really fit  with the profile of a laptop, especially if you're bringing it into public places. Even if it's got browns.

It's an interesting idea...
But it looks terrible...
I get that it's a desktop replacement, but it's almost useless because of how large.

I bet this thing is going to weigh a ton! I'd much rather have a laptop that is light weight and small. I'd just bring a TKL board with me if I wanted to type for long periods of time.

Personally, I think this is pretty awesome. My brother would probably be very interested in this. He tends to need a desktop replacement in a laptop and doesn't mind the bulk since it's certainly more portable than a full desktop system.

Also, standard layout!.... STANDARD LAYOUT! Hallelujah!

You might see something like this from Lenovo as well.

I know that they are looking into it.  Apparently they wanted to use Cherry ML switches.

Looks like MSI beat them to the punch.

"The first ever gaming notebook..."

I thought notebooks were meant to be a smaller version of a laptop?
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

This is pretty cool IMO. I know at least a few guys that look for portable workstations, not something portable, they have smaller netbooks for that. The only downer is the flashy look.

That is a nice laptop.

Among other things, I have a 17.3 inch gaming laptop. The point of the laptop is ease of use, it doesn't matter how heavy it is. Plop it right down on a table, open it up and there you are in Dead Space or Battlefield or whatever else. The larger screen itself also adds to the experience.

As opposed to having to then bring in the monitor, keyboard and speakers and an extra power strip to plug it all into. I've seen some comments on tech sites that gaming all-in-ones because of the larger screen issue (up to 24-inches) would make those good for people who end up in hotels for long amounts of time, because they have most of the ease of carrying of gaming laptops, the same performance profile, and a larger screen.

I thought notebooks were meant to be a smaller version of a laptop?

No those two terms are interchangeable. (Or at least they are in the states) As has been said it's netbooks that are small.

That's fantastic. I never liked the term notebook, but I may start using tome. Or maybe grimoire...

For me, a laptop is to use on the go and in different places. The last thing I want is a noisy keyboard on them, and all Cherry MX switches are incredibly noisy.

I wonder why Microsoft, with their surface pro 2 and 3, didn't do this first. I guess lenovo and microsoft R&D don't read geekhack.

Pretty much my opinion on this too Moz.

I use my laptop as a large but portable CAD machine solely for business purposes. If something like this was to be incorporated into a workstation laptop in a more tasteful and less flashy way, I would definitely be interested.

YouTube is broken on geekhack now ... assuming that's what you've posted, and not a load of blank lines.
