MD-VA-DC Meetup

The snow you all got up there in Wisconsin/Minnesota is a different beast than what they wussy Mid-Atlantic people deal with.  South of Chicago, it's all easy riding.

Ah, that's fair enough. Didn't know that. My only long winter road trips so far have been to Canada and Cincinnati, both in cars much better than mine.

At any rate, I didn't mean to derail, I was just sharing my opinion on the matter. 

I meant that the winter snow between NC and MD won't be that bad and I really want to meet engicoder.

Also Terrpn shouldn't cancel it based on the possibility of snow. There'll be plenty of people that can make it safely and the ones who can't should do their homework on the weather and know if they should attempt the drive or not.

No one's talking about cancelling it.  I was just giving my input on whether or not I could make a specific date.  I made sure to say that he shouldn't base the entire event off my circumstances and that I was just giving input.  I thought the whole point of this discussion was to decide what dates do and don't work for everyone...

Update: my previous caveat applies: Having surgery on the 13th so I'm out if its after that. Really looking forward to this meetup whenever it happens.

Yup, you're right about planning around the show. I'm simply sharing my opinion as someone who is most likely flying in for this. Any snowstorm which affects the east coast will have ripple effects into the area's airports causing delays/cancellations. But certainly I don't think anyone is saying to cancel the meetup...

I'm having a hip swapped out on 1/13, so before or at least a month after would be better for me. I agree that January is kind of a crap shoot. Could have sun, rain, ice, snow or any combination or the above, so March or later would probably be a safer option.

I thought you said previously that a month after the surgery was good for you? If you're planning on going perhaps this could pace the meetup? Just an idea.

Yes, that is true, and it would be fantastic if it worked out that way, I just didn't want hold up the show...so to speak.

I was just giving my input on whether or not I could make a specific date.  I made sure to say that he shouldn't base the entire event off my circumstances and that I was just giving input.  I thought the whole point of this discussion was to decide what dates do and don't work for everyone...

I can do January as long as it's on a weekend (which is what I assumed anyway)

As long as it's after 1/15, I'll likely be finishing college apps. I'm trying to be done with all of my applications by 1/1, but a bunch of them aren't due until 1/15, 2/1, and 1 or 2 are due 2/15. I'm lazy, so I'll either stretch those deadlines, or I'll just get them all done 1/1.

We'll see.

He said earlier that people from the north think that people in the south have really pansy winters, when that's not always the case since it can rain (or snow & melt) then freeze making a road really really dangerous.

Now it is true that lots of people in the south don't really know how to handle winter weather, which can make bad road conditions a lot worse.

Now it is true that lots of people in the south don't really know how to handle winter weather, which can make bad road conditions a lot worse.

Absolutely!! But I might also argue that, regardless of climate, the vast majority of drivers have no clue what they are doing when the road is slick, be it rain, snow or ice.

I think it all depends on what kind of winter we have. The last few haven't been very bad, minimal snowfall. Unless it gets really bad January might work.

No way to make everybody happy, but the weather is the under lying theme here.

So regardless of what other meetups are going on at the time I would still like to plan a meetup for a Saturday in March when the weather is more forgiving and it warms up.

A few of the people who said they would like to come are also into Fountain Pens, so the thought was considering to schedule around the Washington DC Pen Show?

I realize it is the MD/DC/VA area, but not that many people from the area I saw spoke up- mostly folks who live close enough that they would drive from out of town.

I'll do whatever the consensus wants..................I can still use the space, but need to book ahead of time.

Well, Keycon East is going to be sometime in June/July. Late summer could work for this, but Feb/March, from what the weather has been so far, shouldn't be too horrible
