Just the regular beige barrel plate. My phone camera made it look strange.

Ah, that is very cool. I've actually never seen a beige barrel plate before. Now it all makes sense.

Good guy nubbs

This is one of the few clacks that I'd go out of my way to acquire. I didn't like it at first, but I've been drooling over it since I saw madhias' pictures of it. There's nothing I'd love more than to give this clack a new home on my F107 which I'm currently restoring, or an SSK that I hope to get soon

Sell it to Pho, but only when he promises to release some of his goodies :D
I got boards.

I deserve one because I support the new cap makers and try to pick up at least a cap from each set, I dont sell caps or even do much trading and have given my last 5 keyboards away to friends and family.

Still havent gotten a single real Clacks and Im not that into them, what I would really like is a Brobot. Preferably the green/clear transparent or the pink transparent, could consider the blue transparent one as well

What ever cap would replace my Ducky "Ancient" as NumLock on my G2Pro

Been hurting for one since I found out about them and entered three raffles, right now they feel almost like mythical creatures :/

Edit: Are all caps buckling spring? If so I would only want one to trade for a Mx one :/

Thanks for the opportunity. I don't own any clacks or brobots and my birthday is coming up on the 21st. I only own a cherry mx keyboard and would appreciate any one of the ones you've posted. I know my daughters would love seeing that pink clack on my keyboard  ;D.

I would also like to vote if we can for Photekq, he must have a huge collection of BS boards and would actually use it, maybe we can even get photos of it on the 1/4 boards :p
Plus it would be nice present for him after what's has happened in the past weeks :)

Again, since some people aren't reading the OP.  Only the silver Checkey is up right now

Also, some of you I recognize as supporters of the fakes from Reddit, so you won't be in the mix.  I'm only looking at people who show off how they'll put it to use.  If there are more than one good one, I may put up my Checkey set as well.

I have no artisan caps as of yet, and only 3-4 novelty caps. I also don't have any fancy group buy keycap sets at the moment... using mostly old Cherry sets and the like. Just sold off all my boards and starting my collection over with self-built boards from kits... It just felt better this way, and felt more like my boards were mine. And for the first time, wanting to put something like an artisan cap on it has become an urge I've been having. Of all artisan caps I'd seen, I'd been partial to Brobots, and there is one I recall seeing on a GH picture somewhere before but I had no idea who makes it, it looked like a giant purin with the caramel syrup on the top and all. That would be the one cap I want above any other...

BUT onto the topic at hand! That being the case, I am currently putting together a JD40 and the whole brushed metal minimal look of it would go perfectly with this metal checkey. It's pretty much done already, just awaiting a replacement straight stab wire for the spacebar. Haven't yet decided what keyset to use on it, but if I had the checkey, I'd definitely decide the set as something based around it. Possibly even the PBT Granite set when it ships.

Now that I'm putting together my own kits, I've been keeping my eyes open for artisan caps that would go will with and help give character to the boards.

I have no clacks or brobots but if I were to receive one, I would rock it on my model M so hard... it would definitely be the only decoration and I would never separate it from the model M ever again.

First I want to say that I love your initiative, it's great that you want to do this and I hope more will follow and all this artisan cap madness ends and becomes what was meant from the beginning, something fun to do and chance to add something original to your keyboard  :thumb:
Now for the reason, I don't need this cap, I don't have BS boards and I don't plan to, but I want to do something for a buddy of mine, he is a huge BS fan, he went through great expenses to get all his boards that are close to impossible to find in our corner of Europe. He was the one who gave me my first mech board and introduced me to this hobby that gave me the chance to meet some extraordinary people. So I want to make him a surprise for Christmas, I'm willing to cover also the international shipping costs.  :thumb:

So... You want to punish people who aren't part of the "inner circle" that trades only with each other, that do what they can to get nice caps by... excluding them even further from the "inner circle"?

Whats the logic behinde this? You want to shrink the circle so in the end you all know each other by name and just send pics to each other of caps no one else can ever get?

You really  think this is a smart thing to do, assuming you want to limit the popularity of "copy" caps?

Seems ass backwards to me but then again I'm an outsider looking in with a pocket full of cash wanting some nice caps, that a small circle trade with each other and like it that way.

To me, it seems assholy to view people who arent nerd-balls-deep in caps (made by and for specific people) only a select few will ever touch

checkeys aren't mx, they are bs, thus won't fit on your jd40

he doesn't like people who supports k3kc (for obvious reasons...) and probably don't feel like they deserve a shot at a real clack if they're supporting someone who is making counterfeit clacks

I still dont get it, so regardless of why once you picked up or supported something you enjoy that you in no other way could possibly get, you are the enemy?

Talk about elitism. Is there any way to get onto the pedestal or do you need to be invited?

If you can't understand why a keycap maker does not like people who support counterfeiters, then there's really no hope for you.  It's his cap, he can choose how he wants to sell it.

Sometimes you need to get to know the community before you get all the perks of being member of a forum. I didn't get an "invitation" or how you would like to call it, but I spent time here because I enjoy keyboards. Your moment will come when you can buy clacks, there was even a sale about a week ago (pun intended) and you had every right to join it. However if you support people like k3kc that is strongly disliked among us (you might even get banned at sales etc.), you are just making it harder for yourself. Clack offers will come but you need to have patience

Buy the wrong cap, get shunned by the community. Now I know

Think its silly, GH had their own copy sale of caps they stole the design for. Dont understand how this is any different (apart from the inner inner circle not liking K3KC). Cant find the thread but it had a cap with this logo on it: http://i.imgur.com/su5z9lh.png

the difference is that k3kc is profiting from the caps and acting like a complete douche, and if you like clacks so much why don't you go buy one for aftermarket price, there are alot of threads selling one atm, o wait

Is it possible to get a transparent brobot v2 for ~$100 or less? If so please PM the details
I just like clean caps and I dont even like the clacky skulls would much rather buy the v2 bots, the thing is that there aren non being sold.

The whole situation to me is silly, a small circle throwing pies at all the people who can't get their hands on something they have a ****ton of and when alternative emerge then the pie throwing goes into high gear.

I can support 100 new cap makers, all of the making amazing new designs but if I say one good thing about K3KC Im still the devil?

So... You want to punish people who aren't part of the "inner circle" that trades only with each other, that do what they can to get nice caps by... excluding them even further from the "inner circle"?

This is literally the opposite of what he is doing.  He is specifically favouring people who do not already have clacks...

2. Priority goes to those who do not have any Clacks already.  That said, if you do have some already, feel free to put in for it, the important part is that you use it.

I won't comment on the fakes, because

This Should be taken to pms or another thread.

Hope the checkkey finds a good home!

the difference is that k3kc is profiting from the caps and acting like a complete douche, and if you like clacks so much why don't you go buy one for aftermarket price, there are alot of threads selling one atm, o wait

This is totally not the place for this discussion, but here goes:

This basically sums up the clack/bro/whatever game. It is very silly. It is nice to support local members and is exciting to get in on a sale, but it has definitely exploded into something extremely silly.

The distinction is the K3 is not making new designs, but straight  copying off of other members here. If he initially came out with his own design, then people would have supported him.

Ok this is the last post I'm going to make about this subject, if you want to discuss it further pm and me and we can have a conversation.

First of all, bro caps does not accept that his caps are sold with profit. Therefore if you are looking to buy a cap you should only pay around 60ish but that also make people not wanting to sell the caps, since it's not profitable. You would be much more succesful if you had something to trade for a brocap etc. All the clacks I have aquired is for aftermarket price, that means that I payed much more than the original price to get a cap I like. Sure that sucks, but that's how it is atm. There is no "when you reach 3000+ posts you get all the clacks you want for free cause you are the best member of GH". If you want V2 bros and you know k3kc is stealing bro caps design, why the fk would you support k3kc? Bro caps already said that anyone that supports k3kc will be banned, but you don't give a ****. Some things you can't just get in a day or two some things you have to wait for, I remember when I first joined here and I really wanted a raindrop v1 and I thought it was the coolest keycap set ever. It took me 5 months to find a seller but I didn't ***** about it. You can talk about "elitism" how much you want, but sadly it's just you not wanting to pay the price to collect artisan caps, and you turn to cheap fakes.

.

awesome nubs!

I've never owned a clack (or any BS artisan caps for that matter).

The only artisan caps I haven't kept I've sold at retail (I'll give you some names if you like, I remember a few who got their first bro from me) which, while it doesn't automatically make me "worthy", shows that I'm in this for the fun and creativity and not profit. I like to do things like buy two gasmasks when they go on sale, then give the second at retail to someone who wasn't around during the sale.

plus, I recently got a BS keychain and it's just sitting here...sad and alone...

good luck everyone!

All my Bro bots have been bought for under $100, even transparent ones...

And sorry, but there is no real "inner circle"  Please stop circulating ripsters crazy talk.  Is it that crazy to not want to give someone something at a sale price out of good will, and not want to going to someone that supports others making a profit out of copying someone elses goods?

I hope all of you from reddit are seeing that GH is not the crazy place that ripster makes it out to be.  If you come in looking to see crazy, of course you will find crazy.  But I have had nothing but awesome experiences here.  Try to come in with an open mind, or an objective mind.  It is hard, but holy **** don't cherry pick.

There was a sale of more than 10 brobots, all for 80 usd/kecap last week in the classifieds. Sorry you were too busy hating on Geekhack that you missed it.

I had refrained from posting in this thread, since although I think I sort of like the idea of having a BS Clack / Checkey - I don't qualify cause I would never use it on a board.

That being said - what did make me post is the frowny face on one of my BS keychains!  That is just awesome - I laughed out loud when I saw it.   ;D  I vote for admiralvorian (like my vote counts.....)  Great gesture with this sale nubs! :thumb:

Good luck you guys!

I never owned any artisan caps besides gas masks and a hellboy, but I find the Checkey to be a nice entry point.  Aesthetically, I find it looks great on IBM boards, and it practically shines when compared to my gray desk and my SSK.  Although the keycap isn't made of metal, the metallic look has always been a thing for me ever since I got my hands on metal-backed keyboards such as the Zenith ZKB2R and Omnikey keyboard.

Since my purchase of my SSK back in February, I noticed I have been using the keyboard quite a lot.  This is surprising for me because I've always known myself to use my Topre boards the most.  I think the reason I've been using my SSK so much is because it's the only clicky keyboard I own that truly satisfies me when my keyboard rotation calls for it.  Personally, I think good artisan keycaps are what make me use certain boards more.  I almost always slap on my ruby red gasmask and hellboy Topre keycaps when I begin to use my Topre boards because I love the subtle addition of color and craftsmanship it adds to the overall premium quality of the boards.  Of course, the SSK is no exception to the quality I look for when adding artisan keycaps.

I don't think I have the great amount of passion, such as Karura's efforts to create a retro-pc specifically for his SSK, to utilize the Checkey.  However, like many of the users who made the effort to test their luck, I just wanted to communicate my interest and appreciation for the Checkey.

Here is an old pic of my SSK:

Thanks for giving users the chance to own the Checkey.  As a person who purchases personal archival prints, I know it's not easy to let go of them when you think it can go in better hands.  I purchased quite a few prints that never quite worked well in my rooms, and so they often become gifts to my friends and family who share similar tastes.

That's a glass desk?  A fantastic photo btw, looks like the keyboard is floating :D
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
