What's the reason for not using the 100% cherry replica legends? These sets would look so much better if they did.

These look really nice on white filcos, too bad they don't work on costar stabs in practice

Really? I thought they worked great on Costar stabs, in fact, a lot better than GMK normally does. They fit nice and securely, without any looseness at all, whereas with GMK you usually had to apply scotch tape or Saran Wrap to get the caps to stay in place.

True, it can happen. But then some people never have a problem with it.

My theory is that people that don't have a problem with it simply don't realize it's rubbing, as I've never not had this problem with costar stabs.

For me it does seem like they work better on some of my Filcos then others.  I sometimes have problems with the Enter & shifts, but it always seems to work itself in after a while.

I have not had any issues with these on this board.

hmm, i am guessing that the differences that BiNiaRiS mentioned was the fact that it doesn't look similar to the old cherry keyboard.
noticeable ones are the ~` key, but that's about it from what i see  :-\

2 weeks since Ivan's last comment. Hic hic hic

He's just been overwhelmed by the feels and amazing clarity of the legends and is forced to go through his usual ritual.

Not many know of a dedicated PBT coated bathtub in Ivan's hidden temple of keyboard gods.  Once he receives a bulk order of caps, he fills the tub with keycaps, not to bathe in them, as you plebeians might do.  No.  He washes them individually by hand.  Then lays them out on screens stacked a dozen high and hand blow-dries them while singing sweet reggae songs to bring good vibes to the caps.

Next he has to do the needful and create each set by hand sorting the keycaps.  You'd think he'd create some kind of sorting machine by now, but that would mean potential scratches and he has more integrity than that.  All hand done.

Ivan goes into hiding for weeks on end, home stocked with energy drinks, teriyaki beef jerky packs, and diapers.  For days on end, he hits a keycap-sorting high.  Nobody is allowed to disrupt this and we never know how long the job will take.

He comes out of this tired and needs to sleep for 4 days and nights before he can restock, then go on a similar, but less intense, packing and shipping binge.

It's OK, keycaps will be shipping soon.  There's just a lot that goes into it!   :thumb:

I kinda wished he bathed in them. Knowing the almighty Ivan had bathed with my keycaps would surely improve my words per minute and win me more rounds in CS GO. Praise Ivan.

I don't think Ivan's intention was to have an exact copy of the cherry font, just his own inspired version. I know he's posted about it somewhere but its buried in the annals of gh.

These sets are nearly 95% copies of the Cherry typeface. Taking the Cherry typeface and changing all the symbols is meh. I'm strictly talking about the ones that are called "Cherry XXXXX" in the OP. If you're gonna call it Cherry font you should make sure it is Cherry font. There are a few like the ~, # and, the * that are really off.

I can't see why anyone would be mad if they were changed to 100% replicas.

I think I remember Ivan saying that he hand traced these a long time ago.  And at the time he was the first person to do that for dye-subs (at least on GH anyway).

Of course I would prefer 100% accurate Cherry font, but this is isn't horrible by any means.

What I love is that since the originals are, literally, machined metal forms (I'm thinking similar to letter press type), there are no 'vector images' or TTF files, etc.  There are close approximations, but no digital versions of the 'Cherry' typface that I'm aware of.

The fact someone hand-traced a typeface to translate it to a new process is rad.  \m/

That is so awesome - do you have a link to this (just for personal interest) by any chance?
I want to dig into the history of Cherry's molding a bit...

I'm familiar with the process, but have limited insider knowledge of history.  Most of my info came from digging around forums looking for a digital version of the type.  I did find a bunch of information on the Gorton Typeface (which is SP's typeface hardware) and only assume that Cherry's typeface evolved in a similar fashion.

Deskthority has copies of the font face itself at: http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_legends .

I'm happy to share any more I know.  I have done Intaglio printing, typeset printing, and loss-wax casting with metals in my college years in studio art classes, so even though I don't know specifics of manufacturing processes, I do have some experience with older forms of the processes used to make caps, legends, etc.

Thank you! I don't know what it is about these legends but I think I am slightly obsessed with them

damn, the Japanese sets look sexy as hell. Anyone interested in selling/trading their set? I have GMK TA keyset and I may be persuaded to trade my miami odessa for it . . .

:thumb:

XD Ur funny. Anyone think the keycap will be shipped out within the next couple of weeks?

Ivan usually posts when he has something to post, otherwise, he stays pretty quiet.  We'll find out soon, I'm sure.

And thanks! I had a moment of storytelling there.... :p

At what point should we be concerned for him?

He's been offline since his last post over 3 weeks ago. He could be stranded under a 500 lb crate of PBT keycaps.
