So in the past I have berated myself for being bad with money. I keep spending money on keyboards, car parts, and general crap. But this weekend I have decided that no more shall I waste money on crap for the car.
Instead, my shopping list has been finalised. Now I have a Lightsaver pretty much in my possession, I have no need for anything else keyboard related. Therefore, I am looking at about £15,000 worth of stuff I want to do to the car. LMAO. It sounds like a lot when you put it like that.
My ideas about the wheels have taken a turn. Initially I wanted to go copper plating. Then that was too expensive, and I decided I would go with powder coating instead. Now, I am looking at something like this:
(Don't worry, they won't be blue)
My wheels will be cut down, and turned from one piece cast 15" wheels to three piece 17" wheels. This is achieved by adding a one inch lip all the way round the face, which I think is the minimum you can do with wheels like these. 17" wheels work on a Golf, but I think that's the biggest you can go without looking stupid, bearing in mind the stock wheels were 13s... I've been quoted for around 2000 euros, which is about £1700.
I am going back to the copper plating idea and the faces will be done, which brings the price down on the original quote I was given. Part of me wants to put a dish on them, but with the offset I have at the moment, I don't know if that is possible. With another part of the plan I think I may have to roll the arches a bit for some wider front wheels... The price I had on full wheel plating was £300 per wheel. I imagine this would halve because the £1700 above includes a refurb, which the £300 included before. So we are looking at maybe £400-500 for the faces plated. I reckon.
Next up I am toying with either the engine swap or putting it on air (inb4 bags are for ***s). I think if I put a new engine in it before I uprate the suspension, I would have to uprate the coilovers, which I think is a waste of money. So I reckon I need to put it on air first. A full air install with custom hardlines, remote control, four corner control, is about £5,000 from these guys:
http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/air-ride-installs/How fricking beautiful are those setups at the bottom? Amazing. At this point I'm going to have to have a beater to drive around in. A mk4 tdi or a Passat or something. Practical, efficient, but not quite boring. I can't be using something on air for a daily driver
) Imagine a black tank, copper hard pipes, black compressors, on copper splits. It would be amazing.
Finally, comes the engine swap. A friend who lives in my city can supply and fit a 3.0l TDi from an Audi A5 for £8,000. I believe this includes transmission as well, however the A5 is a Quattro, so I do not know how that is going to work... Might need to be this first and air ride second hahaha. On top of this I'm going to need a custom exhaust, up-rated brakes, and yeah, those thick tyres. The 3.0l starts at 237hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, but I reckon that could be pushed to just shy of about 400bhp with some magic...
This on top of the seats which I haven't got a quote for right now. But I am waiting on finding a pair of front seats and we are good to go for the re-upholstery. The rear bench needs to be altered slightly to fit into my car, and whatever front seats I get will probably need some alterations too, but there we go.
It's all dreams. But we can all dream can't we?
