Seriously, even after nearly twenty years in some sort of IT-adjacent field and a lifetime of making and DIY, a friend just now told me about this concept and this site.

I'm fascinated because I dislike the feel and config of a number of new keyboards and, despite never hacking input devices to any great degree (except fixing them to get them to work again), I'm a very DIY sort of person and always interested in learning more DIY stuff.

So I probably know nothing of the products and lingo that are second nature to many of you so, when we interact, please treat me like a friendly but occasionally sarcastic five year old. ;)

See you around the wild world web,

John Shaft (yes, I know and...ya know...I kinda am)

PS: My vision is  not all that great. Do we always have to type the stupid human test before we can submit a post or is that just in the Intro section or just until one has a certain number of posts?

Welcome to geekhack! You only need to do the capcha for your first 10 posts, after that it goes away.  :thumb:

Welcome to GH!

You sound like you'd be into doing some customs, which is that case you're in the right place =D

Interesting. That captcha thingy must be a recent thing. I wonder if it's applicable using Tapatalk.

Oh thank god, it's only the first 10? I joined this week also and was quietly muttering to myself about that. Hah!

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

And I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering about the capcha.

@Evo_Spec:

Yeah, you caught me. Before things are all said and done, I'm sure I'll have the mig welder out on one of these. ;) I also build cars and motorcycles for fun.

Welcome to Geekhack!

A sense of humour is essential sometimes :)

From making cars to keyboard - quite a difference in scale :eek:
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
