Heaviest Topre switch?
« on: Mon, 22 December 2014, 07:35:24 »
Hi GH. I was just wondering is there any Topre keyboards with a heavier actuation than 55g. Are they nonexistent? If they do exist, please leave a link. Thank you.

The heaviest is 55g. I have an RF 87ub 55g, and it is my favorite Topre-switch board in terms of the sound and feel of the switches. I also have a HHKB Pro 2, which has 45g switches. I prefer the HHKB for its form factor and layout, but I like the sound and feel of the RF 87ub 55g better.

Topre switches can vary quite a bit when it comes to stiffness. I had a AE 55g that I measured upwards of 80g

The highest listed is 55g, but many are higher in reality

There is quite a bit of variability in Topre switches. My 87U 45g feels more like 40g, and my 660C (45g) feels a little less heavy than my 55g. Some people measured their variable weight Realforce keyboards and noted that the weight for different keys can vary by a few grams up or down.

Can you put an extra spring for each dome, like some Topre boards do for the space bar?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
