Hey Guys! Check out my Pro keyboard
« on: Wed, 28 January 2015, 07:24:40 »
Hello,

Since its kind of mandatory for me to be active and not spam. I thought I should say hello.

Hey everyone!

I would soon be making my first mechanical keyboard purchase. Not certain where to start, started browsing and found you guys, joined in.
Hope this leads me to a fantasy world full of keyboards, keycaps and what not amazing things you bastards talk about ( Half the things are beyond my understanding )

Anywho... as the title says here is my Pro Keyboard. The Logitech Internet Pro Keyboard, ;D go drool  :p

I really hope you pickup a DT-35 vmod. The pinnacle of rubber domes in my opinion :)). Really though, I love the DT-35. Welcome to GH and I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thank you.
I am not sure yet, there are so many options and over that is the option of so many different type of switches. I think blue switches ( the most basic I guess ) would be a good start. Might just buy a cheap cherry mx blue switched keyboard, one to get me to understand mechanical keyboards properly I guess. Still not certain.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Haha... Never knew there is a better quality to rubber dome keyboard too. I considered all membrane / rubber dome keyboards to be more of less similar quality and experience.
Don't you want me to dive into mech? :(

Aside from switch type don't forget to consider the form factor you want: full-size, tenkeyless / TKL like a QFR, 60% like a poker, or a 40% like the...umm...JD40.

I haven't tried a DT-35 but I do keep a rubberdome to keep things grounded and help me appreciate my mechs more. ;)

Pretty sure I would go for the full-size for my first purchase, haven't used other form factor for that long.
But then again I like the other QF-TK (Quick-Fire TK) form-factor too. It sort of is the full-size without actually being the full-size. (Not sure if its called TKL or not )

Haha. I see what you did there.. The JD40 just melts my eyes, I cannot imagine it being used for anything else other than rough write-up & coding. The 40% form-factor is so perfect for being a non-distracting form factor. Just the absolutely needed keys.

Edit : Absolutely would prefer to keep my 'Pro' keyboard for the same purpose as yours. :)

I started with a full-size too!  Then TKL and now 60%.  'still haven't ventured into 40% but I think it would pair well with a phablet (waiting on phablet to assess need for a 40% ^-^).

P.S. the rubberdome is perfect for when someone asks if you have a spare keyboard they could use. :))

I never ventured in mechs so for that purpose I have a spare ~$3 membrane USB keyboard which right now (from the last 6 months) is with a friend.
For me my present pro keyboard is/was precious to me for its multimedia keys.
And now after seeing mechs I really don't care much if I get it in mechs or not. I did see some mechs with Fn/MM keys but they seem expensive.

You do like Logitech right?  I did find and obtain the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Windows and Android.  It is a Bluetooth keyboard, so you may have to get a Bluetooth adapter for your PC to use it.  It has a very nice feel and it is portable with multimedia keys as well.  What I like the most about it is you can use it on the go.  If you have a tablet, PC, or Smartphone with Bluetooth capability, it will work on all of them.
The keys feel pretty good for a Bluetooth keyboard too.  It actually caught my eye, and I had the chance to get it on sale for nearly 1/2 price at BestBuy.  Hopefully you might be able to get it for that price too.  It's not expensive and works very well.  Of course it's not a mechanical keyboard, but it has a lot of nice features you might be looking for.

If you get it on sale, it might be worthwhile for you.  (Or anyone for that matter.  It is pretty good for what it is.)
It also has a 3 year warranty.
Edit:  I have to stop drooling all over the place, what a mess!

Welcome to Geekhack!

It is not mandatory to be active - some members join and just lurk for months.  I think the record is nearly 2 years of lurking

Describing this as a fantasy world is actually quite accurate - we have unicorns and lots of pretty lights :D
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Superb. I might start just lurking once I settle on buying my first mech. haha..
Ya man.. so many lit keyboards damn.. I already feel the keycaps are encroaching my world.

Oh don't worry I am already hooked. :D

I liked the multimedia buttons, no preference to logitech as such. I would prefer those  in the new keyboard but as I said before hard to find at good price so might just adjust without them.
I get what you are saying, but bluetooth keyboards never appealed to me. The only wireless keyboard I would ever get would probably be Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/k750-keyboard)
It isn't cheap but that would be the only wireless I would prefer.
But for now I want to just dive into mech :D

P.S. : Glad you realised the mess. Now clean it up and don't blame me.

Nah, don't lurk, some competitions require a certain number of posts and/or length of membership ;)

anyway, the more you participate, the more you learn about keyboards, the more you discover can be done with them, the more things you can find to buy, the more opportunities you have to spend your money ...

Very well said..
And this should be in the title of the site.
But the damage is already done, I am registered here and keep pushing my first mech purchase only because the total cost from the board to keycaps has more than doubled than my initial estimate. GH is gonna run my dry.

Oh come on.. Don't be mean to that bad-boy. It has endured a lot of seasons. I think I bought this one in 2007 or 2008.
