Another lurker from /r/mechanicalkeyboards
« on: Tue, 17 February 2015, 16:55:17 »
Hey all,

I've been a longtime lurker on /r/mk and decided to finally join this awesome community. I know there's been a ton of fuss lately between the two but I'm looking forward to seeing some fresh content!

Thanks
I need more keyboards to hold all of these keycaps.

I currently own a Poker 2 with MX Brown switches but I'm interested in purchasing a CM Storm QuickFire TK with MX Reds for my PC that I am currently building. This is barely the beginning of my keyboard journey!

P.S. Don't worry I'm not a troublemaker and plan on being an active member of this forum.

Awesome! The TK is a cool keyboard, I just wish It had a standard bottom row. Looking forward to seeing you around the forum!  :thumb:

Welcome! I recommend looking through the "post your Korean customs" thread in the Geekhack Media sub forum - there is a distinct lack of that kind of drool worthy high end keyboard posted on the subreddit.

Welcome to Geekhack!

This is the internet - there's a fuss about something every day :p

As other have said, the Quickfire TK is nice, but the bottom row (Ctrl Win Alt space Alt ...) has non-standard sized keys.  If you have an intention of replacing the keycaps, the best option is an ANSI layout keyboard with 1.25x modifiers.  You'll find most keycap sets will cater for that kind of standard layout.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hello,

Thanks for making me feel welcome. Also, thanks for letting me know about the bottom row of the Quickfire TK, I was unaware of that. Once again,

Thanks,

Yep, not only is the knowledge base better but the keyboard porn is in an entirely different class than the stuff on r/mk. Also, this place seems to be much more active despite the number of subs that Ripster is constantly bragging about.

I would have to agree with you. There is a myriad of content on here so much so that I could spend all day browsing through the different forums. The awesome thing is this isn't just a site for mechanical keyboard related subject matter - I particularly enjoy the headphone & fountain pen threads as well.

I actually just bought my first fp last month and I absolutely love it! If you are interested at all I would check out the Pilot Metropolitan. It can be found here http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Metropolitan-Collection-Fountain-91107/dp/B009X9Z2FW for about $15 USD and is a great starter fountain.

My writing would have to improve a lot before I would consider getting a fancy pen like that :))
