Are any Canadians interested in trying Topre boards?
« on: Sat, 28 February 2015, 09:58:32 »
I'm coming back from the USA with another topre board and was thinking I could circulate it for a bit before I take it apart and mod it.

The purpose would be to give Canadians a chance to try topre without paying the extremely high prices for one nor pay the customs and taxes or international shipping.

Not sure if this is the correct section since it's not really a group buy or sale.

Also in Montreal. I've tried Realforce but I'd be interested in trying an HHKB if you have one to see what Topre feels like without a metal plate.

Just to clarify the board I'm bringing back is a uniform 45g.

The realforce 91udk-g

I also have that limited edition hipro but that's something I'm not keen on shipping out

I'm trying to get a HHKB but that hasn't been fruitful

Indeed! I generalize to Montreal but I live in Repentigny. I can drive easily to Montreal. That would be quite an opportunity to get the feel of multiple keyboards and meet nice people. Keep this thread updated if anything happens!

Other than the 55g Realforce, some might be interested in a 1990 Model M and a Chicony KB-5181 with Monterey blue switches.

Well unfortunately I couldn't help myself and already modded the keyboard so I won't be shipping it out =S

It also seems that the majority of the interested people live in or near montreal so I'll try organizing something..
This keyboard is truly a treat to try

Hi, eh, fellow Canadians,

Yeah, Topre switches are sweet. Everyone should try them sooner or later.

I don't know if this helps (or if you even want to hear about it), but NCIX here in Vancouver has the Topre Type Heaven on their Weekly Special for $159.00 Cdn. Considering it's $165 U.S. (about $199 Cdn.) on Amazon.com, it seems like a pretty good deal.

Unfortunately, it looks like today (Mar. 4) is the last day of the sale. Thought I'd mention it anyway.

BTW, this is not an ad for NCIX or anyone else, so please don't rag on me about that... I just happened to spot it and thought you might like to know. Cheers, A.

Montreal as well! Would also be down for a coffee/meetup. But be aware, I am a complete n00b in the mechanical keyboard world; while I've always loved the sound and feel of one, I only recently learned about the switches, different parts, etc. etc.

Canada Computers in Ottawa (Merivale location) has a Cooler Master Touch TKL out on demo if you want to try out a Topre. I liked it so much I bought one to replace my Cherry Brown Das.

Might head down there this weekend to try it out. I've only used 55g Topre in my 87u.

I tried to buy a QFR with blues last time I was there... it was in the "as-is"/no box.. still wouldn't let it go for less than $82. It's $90 new...

All of them? I was thinking of hitting Laval or West Island to see if they had some in display

Their website doesn't seem to be working for me right now.. might have to call them tomorrow and ask.

I live in the west island and my friend works there.
I can ask again but I'm almost certain at least the west island store does not have it on display (they have some other more common keyboards though)

Alright I'm going to get some supplies at Addison and will probably swing by CC at Laval to see what they have
