the keys were not happy to be in that box, and a bunch of the keys are scratched up

it shows up especially bad on the dark bits

fortunately i don't care enough to get mad about it, cause this filco looks ****in baller

i wish GMK shipped them in plastic bags over cases, honestly

My tape was fast in place and super hard to remove. But the clamshell still separated in the middle enough for things to shift around on the bottom set.

Empirical evidence suggests that we, the buyers, are at fault for our caps arriving is such disarray. Those that bought 2 sets don't seem to be having many problems. Ergo, we should have bought 2 sets  ;D

Why buy one, when you can buy two at twice the price?

As far as I can tell there is only one key that got scratched; a 1.25u Windows key. It isn't enough to bother me. Or at least, I'm not going to let it bother me.

Might have something to do with how it was packaged as well. Yours seem to be just sitting on top of some bubble mailers. The box I received was wrapped in green air packaging.

Yeah, there was no green packaging in there at all. There were a few of the bubble things on top, but not enough to stop everything from moving about. It didn't help that the mail guy put the box standing up vertical against side of my house. Gravity kind of just took over. As an added bonus, we had massive storms here yesterday. The box was soaking wet and smelled like old milk. It was super gross! Not MD fault about the rain and/or cardboard smell, but it didn't help my unboxing experience any.

Oh man that blows. At least you came out mostly OK. Do we know if they all ship from the same place? Seems weird that they would use different packaging at the same warehouse. Mine shipped from New Jersey I believe.

edit: I just went back and looked at Engicoder's pics and he had the same green air packaging I did and his were still a mess. I guess I ran into a bit of luck with my shipment. Or ordering 2 really did make it more secure.

Haha I found my box posted vertically as well. I also had no green bubble wrap. Seems like the way to go was to order at least 2 sets to get better packaging and a higher chance of the caps staying inside their trays.

Colors aren't great because there isn't a lot of light on my balcony right now..  Stacking them kept the caps in the box, but it didn't prevent them from bouncing around.  As you can see, there's minimal tape on the sides of the cases, and minimal force can separate the two halves.

I just did a quick pass-over (I just got home a few minutes ago), and I saw at least one 1.25 alt modifier that got scratched..  Pretty annoyed to be honest.

Most of the scratches/scuffs I felt rubbed off on my set, just a gentle rubbing with a fingernail took off the white marks from the other keys, but did anyone else get 1.5u Alt caps that look like there was a mold issue on the front side of the caps?  It is the same on both caps, so it appears like it was a mold problem (just looked through and it looks like beehatch had the same thing on the alt keys in her album).

Also it is probably due to the way custom colors are mixed for injection molded plastics, but it seems some keys can have very uneven coloration that looks like color swirls or water damage, like my shift key:

Yep same thing on my alt keys. Lovely.

The only one that super bothers me is the N key, because it's facing towards me.. and I can see it. Mind you it was worse (a straight white line through the legend), but you're seeing the after pictures where I rubbed it with my fingernail as you mentioned.

I'm not even bothering with the other keys.

I'm super pleased with the keyset itself, but at the same kinda sad, because I'm not the only one obviously who has beat up keys.

That "N" key is really making me sad. I know I was kind of forgiving on the scratches idea earlier, but this is the kind of thing that I would be upset about. I can only imagine your disappointment, Bee. :(

The only one that super bothers me is the N key, because it's facing towards me.. and I can see it. Mind you it was worse (a straight white line through the legend), but you're seeing the after pictures where I rubbed it with my fingernail as you mentioned.

Yea, that one would bug me a lot too, hopefully Massdrop did what I would expect any responsible vendor to do and order a few spare sets to cover issues like your "N" or stuff that would be less prevalent, like missing keys or other odd issues.

Gotta give the apt. concierge at least an hour or so to sort the packages... stay tuned..

Hi,
I asked to DHL for my TA shipping status, and DHL told me he did not received your package.
what happen? and why some one enjoyed it the keycaps and you did not send my package?

I already responded to your PM. I am not Massdrop, I am not shipping the packages. You need to contact them: https://www.massdrop.com/support

God damn I'm going to be ****ed off if these show up scratched to ****.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

The way things are looking with the scratches seems that either Massdrop or GMK are at fault

I'm leaning toward Massdrop.

Looking at beehatch's album FULL of scratches I seriously think something needs to be done about this. This is completely unacceptable.

What to do about it? I have no idea, but I think nothing short of a full refund from Massdrop without sending the sets back seems in order

I personally think Massdrop and GMK share the blame on this one. Massdrop should have packaged the sets more carefully, but GMK should have designed the trays to withstand reshipping. There are a number of ways to accomplish this, including adding stems like Leopold does for its trays.

I'm obviously perturbed because I don't want people to receive scratched keys, or to initially see the set scattered in a box. I chose the trays because I thought they'd solve sorting and shipping woes. In the future, I'll choose presorted plastic bags unless there is a redesign of the trays.

Sorry to all who are having trouble. Please contact Massdrop if you have any keys that need to be replaced.
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

Awesome pic, it is my understanding that the original TA sets looked similar to Raindrop when they were new using something like GMK V4 and N5 for the blues. Same blues as the ones on the TA typewriter caps that did not age to the teal colors like the ones on cherry boards. If I had a raindrop set I would switch out the mods every now and then to see how the new TA sets may have looked back in the early 90s. Maybe you could do that and snap a pic sometime!

Honestly I'd blame Massdrop for this one. I'd be willing to bet that GMK didn't send them to Massdrop with a stack of room for them to move around in the boxes. You can't just chuck something in a box with no padding and expect it to make the distance.

I guess I got lucky.  my box was flipped upright by USPS but the tray and keys inside were all exactly where they were supposed to be.  single set.  i've only done a quick once-over, but didn't notice any molding-related issues either.  the keys look awesome and i can't wait to put them on my work board tomorrow.  thank you so much intelli for all the work that you put into this.  i hope everyone receives their packages in good shape!

Some of these "scratches" are straight up gouges. Hopefully Massdrop makes good on this for you all...IME they are good about fixing mistakes, even if they aren't the best at not making them in the first place.

I'm really apprehensive to see the state of my set tomorrow when it gets delivered. I don't know who's to blame, but hopefully there will be compensation if the keys are damaged.

Hmmm not so sure about that considering every time I have had a problem they told me to email the manufacturer.
Their lack of credibility is astonishing.

I wonder if they are going to tell people to email GMK about this

My set is finally in California. Still three days. At this point I've got a feeling of growing dread. >_< UPS has mishandled things to the point of breakage before. (I had a resin figure in form-fitting styrofoam inside two boxes come with a broken neck once, FFS!)
