Its like the orion v2 and octagon v1 had a baby.

I wonder if the new case will fit the v1 PCB? (Alu top + acrylic angled bottom)

good stuff. too bad duck kept the usb slot where it is in the center, but i guess he wants backwards compatibility with the v1 pcb (if not reusing them outright)

led indicators look better in actual photos than in the render, but i still don't care much for them

It's actually pretty interesting to think about. I just realized that the Octagon was the first Duck board to have RGB underlighting (so they COULD reuse the PCB), and then the Orion v2 expanded on those features and brought in new design asthetics. Now it's tossing the ball back to the Octagon and the Octagon is taking the Orion v2's design aesthetics.

I think the original got its design from the original Orion, either that or the Lightsaver v2. It's all coming around again, haha.

I personally like the centered USB location. It's pretty unique. :) I'm gonna miss the little name plate that the original Octagon had for the stickers. :( Buuut, the rest makes up for it.

That's true too, since I have the original Octagon, I can always swap PCBs out for fun. That's a plus! I also agree with the indicators. I think they're innovative and different. Kinda harken back to old school keyboards, but they do look a little funny.

It hasn't been released yet, in the SQ's group buy he was discussing that the 75% is planned for the next group buy. He has several layouts that he is planning on selling.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. I'm wondering what it'll look like. I remember a 75% PCB being offered as part of the interest check Meiosis hosted a while back (one that ended up being suspended for a while), so I'm guessing that a case is being designed around it. So likely something like the SQ and RedScarf III, with an aluminum top and acrylic bottom?

Sounds tempting, but I'm not the biggest fans of those diffuse bottoms.

Oh, what are you planning to get for the Octagon v2? I certainly plan on getting a brass weight for the board if we can get a good source for them in the states, someone who can make Orion and Octagon brass weights. :D

I'm so glad that I'm really not "turned on" by TKL layouts, because there are far too many awesome TKLs coming out all the time. Strangely, I feel satisfied just hanging with the Octagon, even if other 75% boards come out. Definitely my happy place. I love the Duck boards.

I think it's the 11 degree angle and all the flashy lights. 02D is pretty intuitive too, if not just a little bit quirky.

Do it!  >:D

It would be nice to have at least one with Alps! :D If the Octagon v2 ends up not having an Alps PCB option, I'm just going to throw in some linear Zealios to really soak up that RGB glow, and also since I prefer linears on my daily drivers. If I want to go tactile, I'll just swap in some vintage clear stems!

me neither, though yutski's boards almost managed it. i still think wkl is the best layout aesthetics wise, but i like 75% for the compactness and the novelty

Check to see if you received the right screws.  I think you're supposed to use 8 short screws but my flat piece came with 4 short and 4 long for the angled and aluminum bottom.

If I remember correctly the first 30 were gone within the first couple hours

I placed my order like an hour and a half after and got spot 23

Comparatively. I tried to join the yuktsi Jane ce buy 10 minutes after the post and was too late to get in.

Phew. I didn't think that was fast either. The first round of Jane sold out within the day, and that was a while.

Luckyyy. I sat refreshing the group buy page for like 6 hours. Took a small break to play fallout and of course that's the exact moment the buy gets approved  :'(

Guh :-X Well, I really hope there's an announcement for the GB ahead of time, because my phone sends me updates way too slow for me to be warned of the Octagon GB quickly enough. I definitely need to get in!

Anyone know how quickly the spots filled up for the Orion when the GB started?

If I remember correctly the first 30 were gone within the first couple hours

That's actually not that quickly if you think about it. As long as you're prepared for the buy you should have plenty of time to get in.

It's not like you can predict when GB threads pop up, though. AFAIK they need to be approved by mods and that basically happens whenever. "being prepared" = sit at your computer and F5 every five minutes? the thread notification emails can be hours late.
