Can I put MX springs into my Alps (Matias) switches or do I need Alps springs specifically?

Hey sprit!

I would be more than happy to try out some custom ALPS springs and order a few bags, but I honestly do not know what spring weight I want.

Would you be able to provide me with a sample pack of the different weights before ordering more bags?

It's an interesting board.
It's a Chicony KB-5161 rebranded for Samsung. There is no birth certificate on the board telling me the number or date.

Did you happen to get that one from me by chance? Just curious.  :p

Is it rude to bump? I would buy at least three bags of springs anywhere between 60g and 85g.

any word/update on this? I'm hoping to get heavier springs for my quiet linear Matias switches for the Planck I got from massdrop. something as heavy as a black or heavier.

ALPS Springs - Introducing in August

Thanks for the Long Wait!   After the long IC, I'd like to introduce Alps Custom Springs Worldwide.
Already prototyped in 2012-2014, will mass produced in this August.
I will update the progress.   https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=55888.0

I've been told that lighter springs in skcm browns don't make much a difference.  Anyone test this?

Of course; I wouldn't say something like that without testing it myself. :P

ALPS Springs  - How to do GB (1)

I will not invoice or ship individually for this GB.  No time to conduct that mission.
When it is produced, limited amounts will be shipped via Proxy or some other way.

You should get some Matias linear switches and swap the springs between the two. Improves both switches IMO.

How long will these springs be? Having so many choices of stiffness is in my opinion not very useful. People would get better range of switch feeling from having fewer stiffness choices, but 2–3 different length choices

Stiffness at actuation point includes the contribution from a metal leaf spring used to depress the contact? If so, which type (complicated Alps? SKBM? Matias?) Does this also include a contribution from a tactile leaf? I assume not.

Can you compare your proposed springs to some specific Alps (or other existing switch) springs, so we have some context and basis for comparison? Ideally compare both stiffness and length (e.g. a side-by-side picture)?

Thanks for putting something like this together, Sprit! More choices of Alps springs will be great!

There are a lot of people who favor the minute differences between 55g, 58g, 62g and so on when it comes to Cherry MX. I'd say that the wide array of options is a good thing. Someone might find that their spring of choice hits a very particular sweet spot.

One of my favorite weighted switches is the Alps SKCL Brown switch. In all the board-wide switches I've used, this one is the heaviest, but it's very pleasant. SKCL Cream (the next closest) is 5g lighter (and SKCL Yellow is 5g lighter than that). I'd love having a spring weight that is on point with that switch, for instance. 5g is enough of a difference for me.

Yes, that's why the scale is so detailed, personally 48cN  and  58cN  is one of my sweet spots.
Done quite lots of Swapings & Mutants by myself,  -  Still need You Guys stories, Yes!  ;)

Conclusion
Not necessary to show All the complex calculation of all the SW types and it's variations from the different origin of production, IMO.
AS the ALPS has a long long history, incl. the modern Matias,  I have concluded Not to mention the structure of complex ALPS SWs,

Just wanna say,    ! Everyone is Invited !   ;)

I'm assuming a coil spring of a given weighting will have a different effect in different Alps switches due to there also being a leaf spring in there. This means I have absolutely no idea what weightings I might want, or whether any of them would be lighter or heavier than what I already have. Sprit could you tell us which of your springs most closely approximate the stock springs in some well known switches? Like which would be closest to a 1-1 swap? Maybe start with the black alps in the AT101, and the matias quiet clicks?

But need lots time to make tables and pics, I will do it in weeks.

Just point me in the direction of the spring that will make my cream dampened click modded sound and feel like blues. :)

AFAIK, There is No Way to transform the cream or dampened click modded -  To ALPS Blues.   Very differ in the 2nd leaf flat springs.
The Blue 2nd leaf springs(stiff angled) make What the Blue Click is (and the main contact leaf springs in some part).

But...  You can get the clicky 2nd leaf springs from other cheaper sources, for example, Matias Clicky, or Chinese Clickiss.
It will be ~70% similar to the genuine  ALPS Blues, IMO.   (Personally, I prefer softer ALPS White Clicky than Blues).
Hope to hear other opinions!
