You don't need a teensy to make the usb removable. You only need it if you want to re-program all your keys.

You really only need to figure out which wires go to what on the cable, and buy a usb mini breakout board such as:

Search Google for TMK firmware and you should get a link to github with the source code, and all the instructions you need for building, assembling and loading the firmware onto your Teensy.

The Teensy is used so as to provide a controller for a board that doesn't have one, or has a broken one. It can also be used for converting old connector types over to usb such as ADB, 5 Pin DIN, etc etc. Perhaps other Geekhackers can chime in, but I'm unsure if the TMK firmware supports usb to usb conversion.

You also may want to provide a picture or a diagram of what you mean by "install the wires".

Ok yah...if you're happy with the key layout, it would have been easier with the adafruit link I sent you.

What guide were you following to know to connect the wires to F7 and B6?

There should be instructions on the site that tell you to download a few more things and how to make the hex file. It's fairly long and very well written. Read the whole thing a few times before trying to do any of it.

As far as I know, there's no pre-existing TMK fork/map for any RF (and there are many iterations); unless you know the matrix setup/pinout (hard enough to work through with normal switches, let alone variable capacitance) and want to do some serious source code work, I don't think you'll be flashing TMK on your teensy RF anytime soon*. My $0.02 would be to sell the teensy and buy a breakout board like Merlin suggested.

*Some people here have a hard enough time compiling and flashing firmware, even when the source code (minus your keymap) is provided; it's not to say that you can't, but it's not for the faint of heart and if you do, post it to github when you're done!

yaaay a more senior member responded!

But yes...in the time it would take you to figure out how to code the teensy to offer a "pass thru" connection, the adafruit product I recommended could already be at your doorstep.

You don't have to get it on adafruit.

I would suggest just searching ebay for

"usb mini breakout board". That should give you a whole lot of options.

Yeah, the shipping cost was outrageous, so I bought it at ebay
thank you for your suggestion
