How do you display your keyboards?
« on: Tue, 14 July 2015, 21:05:42 »
Another words, do you have a special case? A designated level on the bookshelf? I'd love to see how you display your keyboards.

Some of us own beautiful keyboards, and I've been thinking of displaying some of my more special ones more openly. If not just to make it more accessible to access in the rotation.

I bought one of these a while ago. Loving it so far. Perfect size for a TKL.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I only have two so whatever isn't being used I keep on top of my PC case. I have a Fractal Design Define R5 with all the moduvent covers on the top of my case closed so it's a convenient place for my keyboard to sit on. :thumb:

My landlady put up two shelves in the room where the majority are kept. A few I have in boxes. The rest are on a shelf in my book cupboard, and I have one on my desk at home and one at work.

No place to display them for now.  Boxed up most of them.

Oh well.  Proudly displayed in USPS Priority Mail Board Game boxes for the most part.

Currently don't have enough for this to be a problem. When when I do, I'll be building some floating shelves.

Exactly what I want to do.

There's a few ideas in the previous threads:

I've been thinking of making a fairly tall stand to store and have quick access to 10 keyboards.

What I have in mind is basically two vertical pillars about the width of the alphanumeric part of the keyboard (around 10"). Then there are two arms extending for each keyboard (one from each pillar) that allows each keyboard to be placed at an angle like a magazine rack. The keyboards would rest on the extending arms and the back pillars.

The whole thing would only stick out about 6-8" from the wall and should allow the keyboards to be visible and easily accessible. Perhaps I'll get around to drawing a mockup.
