Phantom case
« on: Tue, 21 July 2015, 04:01:43 »
So today i discovered a phantom does not fit the vortex aluminium case. So I ask what metal cases are out there that fit a phantom pcb?

There was an older MKC case that (I think) fits, however, if you find one (they turn up once in a while), you can expect to probably expend an easy $300 by the time it arrives at your door. They no longer make them, and now they make a make an aluminum keyboard, beware, I'm pretty sure that the cases are not the same, nor are they the same quality. I was in negotiations for one of the good ones and it was looking like it was going to be around $350 after shipping.  There are probably a few Korean ones that would work, but again, money. Other than the Vortex and new MKC, you can pretty much expect to spend $300+ on an aluminum case for a TKL or full size.

Beyond that... There is nothing off  the shelf that I'm aware of.
There are some metal and plexiglass, which ones fit, you will have to check.  Gons has some, but do they fit?

There are ways to make it fit the Vortex. Some have used longer screws (m3x 12mm?), some have milled the case, or cut a slot in the bottom, however in both instances, you either have to switch to the previously mentioned Filco/Cooler Master plate, or come up with a way to adapt the universal plate to work. I've heard of some using wood, personally, the best option is the 3d printed shims people get from me. Again, it's still not a perfect fit for the Phantom.

Other options?
I know some have gone so far as to switch to a stock Filco or Cooler Master plate and stock case, but beyond that, I have no idea. That and price is why I haven't really done the Phantom thing. I took a different route and more or less have the same thing but without the hassle or cost.
