Rubber Dome/ "Quiet Touch" Model M's?
« on: Fri, 24 July 2015, 03:23:35 »
So, I am loving my bucking spring Model M, but I find that, apart from the click, I also find the noise of the keycaps themselves to be quite satisfying in its own right. Is that due to the PBT keycaps, or some other aspect of the construction at play? Mine is a Unicomp Spacesaver M.

Has anyone actually typed on a rubber dome Model M to be able to say whether the keycap noise is the same, minus, of course, the click of the buckling spring?

It's probably due to a combination of the switch construction as well as the acoustics and materials of the board. I've found PBT keycaps to actually sound inferior to ABS ones (more high-pitched).
Check my keyboard video reviews:

There is a Model M variant (I think it is called "Soft Touch") that is true buckling springs with a squirt of grease in the spring.

Rubber domes are rubber domes.

PS - ABS sucks - PBT all the way

"We are on the precipice of signing an agreement to advance talks with Iran that preserves the good parts of former President Barack Obama’s Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) while amplifying its flaws.
Mr. Obama came to an agreement that did not involve America’s most precious treasure, the lives and limbs of our soldiers.  The 1.7 billion dollars of frozen Iranian assets released by Obama pales in comparison to the 300 billion being floated as a rebuilding fund.
So far, speculation that Iran will be free in the future to continue its nuclear program is the opposite of Trump’s stated goal for the war and in direct opposition to what Mr. Obama negotiated.

The IBM "Soft Touch" keyboard is extremely rare.  You might find one in 1,000 IBM keyboards.
Good Luck!

I'd love to hear a recording or see a Youtube video of one in action, but apparently that is equally as rare. :)
