I really appreciate Massdrop for hosting Kiibohd meetups so often and arranging for free food+accessories as well as trying to work very closely with the keyboard community.

oh god, okay, so i ordered the MKC Geekey 87 with the titanium aluminum case, brown switches, and white LEDs.  the first one they shipped me had 5 or 6 keys that didn't register, so i shipped it back.  i've since been told that i should have tried loosening the screws, but i didn't know that at the time.  they shipped me a replacement, and the replacement doesn't even register as a device.  the customer service person told me she'd contact the mechanical keyboards team to see if they had any advice, but at this point, i feel like i'm probably going to wind up shipping it back (again) for a refund.

shame, the case is beautiful.

I have a rant with MD, but it can also be the same with MechanicalKeyboards.com.

By now they should know that MX Whites click is as consistent as politicians ... why do they keep carrying boards with them?  Are they masochistic and enjoy having to deal with returns/repairs?

Ordered Zinc keycaps because they did fully backlit alphas.

Then they didn't. At least I got a full refund.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I ordered two Infinities during round 2. I got one "on time" (that is, when everyone else was getting theirs, although much later than estimated). The second one I didn't receive until round 3 buyers started receiving theirs. Lame.

At least my TA arrived safely.

Massdrop is definitely not perfect but they don't deserve a lot of the vitriol they get. Despite the mistakes they sometimes make, they are an ally and they can help us make nice stuff that would be very difficult otherwise. They use a profit minimization model that's the opposite of greedy. The margins they take from artisans are super fair. It's fundamentally a good and honest business, even if they have made some boneheaded mistakes. I have gotten to know the keyboard team pretty well and they are good guys. We are witnessing some growing pains and questionable fulfillment partners but there is no boogeyman. My biggest complaint is that on a lot of regular retail products, the lead time is not worth the savings. Their model shines much more when they're facilitating production or getting hard-to-find items. My 0.02
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

A small order never arrived, and I never recieved a reply from the 5 or 6 emails I sent to a variety of email addresses at massdrop. That has been my experience with them (about a year ago), and the only drop I have been in since was the pbt topre spacebars (couldn't miss that).

Why does Massdrop constantly rush to do drops that people on GH are actively working on turning into GBs then?  The Gateron switches and Gateron PBT caps are two perfect examples.

I just assumed these were coincidences. Having said that, if MD claims to be community-driven they should (a) know about these things, or at least (b) check for things like this first.

I haven't experienced massdrop so far to give an opinion, the PBT space bar drop will be the first thing I have bought with them.

I don't see how they can mess up shipping PBT spacebars, but we'll see...

This.

How many TA sets were purchased at the end?

I've seen lots arrive safely, and probably just as many that didn't, but remember that that is only GH members who post pictures.  There are probably hundreds of people outside GH who received sets without issues.

I actually joined Massdrop for this buy, and ended up joining nearly a dozen other drops since.  So far all have been delivered without issue (although one currently seems to have gone missing during shipping, but it's not really over late yet, just taking longer than it should).

That's the nature of a group buy - you don't know how many individual orders until the end, and only then can place the order with the manufacturer to get a volume discount.

Same with most group buys - there is ordering period, then payment period (although Massdrop gets you to commit funds up front so payment happens automatically), then manufacturing, finally delivery.

As with what other have said I find it annoying how they seem to run thing at the same time one runs something here, other than that they are okay only thing I have ordered from them was the tex acrylic case which I am very happy with, although I find the shipping they use subpar for what you pay to get no tracking number, especially when I pay $22 for something I'm fairly certain that would be tracked O>O

Ivan's Dolch was bagged. You would think all the keys scratched against each other as they were bagged but it turned out alright. I just can't imagine how a few keys coming out of the case could have scratched so badly!

Yes! Time to rant about the recent QF Stealth w/Greens drop!

  • Massdrop places order as expected. Still expecting 7/8 ship date
  • ...waiting...
  • ...still waiting...est. ship date passes
  • CM Storm FINALLY sends the order to Massdrop about 2 weeks past estimated shipping date. Except they only sent out about half or less of the keyboards. Why? Who knows. Now Massdrop holds ALL orders until the remaining units arrive
  • ...waiting...well past shipping date w/no update
  • ArthurM chimes in and promises upgraded shipping due to the delay
  • Keyboards arrive! This is around 7/27 or so
  • Receive notification my order has shipped. Via UPS Surepost. Are you kidding me? Not upgraded shipping at all.
  • Keyboard arrived on 8/4.

In this case, both parties made the drop an "outlier". Probably done ordering boards through MD. Poker 2 did not have any issues with shipping, and that was a specific for-Massdrop run.

Why does Massdrop constantly rush to do drops that people on GH are actively working on turning into GBs then?  The Gateron switches and Gateron PBT caps are two perfect examples.

lol you guys cried about the same **** when sherry was doing stuff with gmk.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

How is that Massdrop's fault? That's really GMK there. They shouldn't have packaged caps like that, with nothing to lock them in place. It's nice that they tried to have better presentation, but their design leaves something to be desired.

I think you're making way too many assumptions on my opinion based on my posting of a single picture. If you had read my post in the TA GB thread, I agree with you that GMK should've taken more consideration in their tray design and sealing (definitely should've been an extra piece of tape on the middle top and bottom). However, I believe this was a combination of bad packaging decisions from both sides, and Massdrop is not without blame. The boxes, which they packed, were too large and had way much too empty space, and allowed for ridiculous amounts of movement of the tray/caps within the box. Also, the way they cushioned the item, the two long sides of the box were not-cushioned and allowed for the tray to make direct contact with the box on both sides. A tighter and smaller package would've been much more ideal, which they acknowledged.

Ultimately, I'm very pleased with the end product. If possible, I'd just like replacements for my damaged/imperfect caps, which I think is reasonable request. I have no doubt Massdrop will come through.

ArthurM's customer service method is horrible. He rarely gives updates, and when he does he blameshifts to the manufacturer. And maybe the manufacturer is often at fault. But it can't be that Massdrop never plays a role when it's the one dealing with the manufacturer. FWIW I think the other Massdrop people do a much better job at interacting with customers. The keycool numpad drop is a perfect example. kunalkumar had to step in and actually offer solutions because ArthurM was acting like god damn Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf.

That whole drop was a fiasco. Mostly bad on MD. Keycool not reaching out to MD for the updated product was not good, but vendor communication is a two way street. MD should have been requesting more frequent updates, and probably could have caught this change before the product left the manufacturer had better communication tools/skills been used. Seeing as these sorts of incidents are unfortunately not isolated, the customer support team should attend some formal training classes...

I'm so used to seeing Arthur and Kunal's faces on all of my drop updates (since I really only get keyboard stuff so far), it's always odd to see so many more Massdrop faces in other discussions. Some of them ought to trade places with Arthur...

Anyways, the NPKC tester has been delayed. YAY. I bet this is another communication issue with the whole PCB thing

I just ordered a Planck from Massdrop. I know better. Why do I hate myself?

'cause you probably could've handwired one, at the rate of one switch per day, and have a working planck faster than MD would ship one to you  :p

Buying super rare yet to be made keyboards.....you need your head read.

MassDrop is ONLY good for mass produced items that's available through some retailers because just see how long it takes for them to receive any GMK keys and now SP as well.  Surprised MD would touch that but there's money in it for them hence they're there.

Remember that every time you want something off a seller that is totally made up from scratch, prepare to be bent over and pegged severely with a 20 inch spiny cactus.
