Dank-music thread 2015
« on: Wed, 30 September 2015, 13:47:30 »
Alright boys and girls I know we have a thread for what your listening too, but it's not really much of a discussion and to be honest it's a lot of rock, metal and rap, which is fine but I'd like to have a place to chat about proper dirty techno/electro/house/deep house/minimal and everything in between.

Now I know for a fact that at least Beehatch and Bro have a solid taste for music so I'm hoping there are a few more!

But the main krux of this thread is to help me pick out proper choons from this year and years passed. I've been building 'Best off 20XX' playlists since 2008, but this year has been a bit mad for me and I've not been able to really get as deep into music as I'd like too, so I'm asking for some help from you guys to help me find some proper bangers and stuff I might have missed...
here is an archive of my older lists to give you an idea of what kinda **** I'm chatting about.... anyway here is a taste of some bangers (yes I know some of these tracks are older than 2015 but I've only come across them this year) that I've been buzzing off;

Actress - Shadow From Tartarus (techno)
Azari & III - Extinction Event (deep house)
Mr Flash - Bagheera [Astro Zu Remix) (house)
Clouds - Nokia (techno)
FKA Twigs - In Time (FKA Twigs)
Azari & III - Extinction Event (deep house)
Mr Flash - Bagheera [Astro Zu Remix) (house)
Clouds - Nokia (techno)
FKA Twigs - In Time (FKA Twigs)

plz share any tunes you've been digging this year!
(and could you post links rather then embedding youtube videos and say what kinda genre it is! just makes it easier to read through the thread)

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Duuude. Vanic is great! One of my favorite artists that I have discovered this year. He also lives in the same city as I, so I have seen him live already. :) All of his songs are super catchy and give good vibes.

ah ok, I guess I didn't even consider Trap because it's not something I really listen to, or knowingly listen too... but I'm not adverse to trying it out and giving it a shot.

Though it's funny that people care so much about genre tags, like it matters

All those listed are originals, aside from the Rayko one which is a retouch of Oby Onyioha. I think Rayko does do original songs, but also often retouches.

I've been building 'Best off 20XX' playlists since 2008, but this year has been a bit mad for me and I've not been able to really get as deep into music as I'd like too, so I'm asking for some help from you guys to help me find some proper bangers and stuff I might have missed...
here is an archive of my older lists to give you an idea of what kinda **** I'm chatting about.... anyway here is a taste of some bangers (yes I know some of these tracks are older than 2015 but I've only come across them this year) that I've been buzzing off;

Actress - Shadow From Tartarus (techno)
Azari & III - Extinction Event (deep house)
Mr Flash - Bagheera [Astro Zu Remix) (house)
Clouds - Nokia (techno)
FKA Twigs - In Time (FKA Twigs)
Azari & III - Extinction Event (deep house)
Mr Flash - Bagheera [Astro Zu Remix) (house)
Clouds - Nokia (techno)
FKA Twigs - In Time (FKA Twigs)

plz share any tunes you've been digging this year!
(and could you post links rather then embedding youtube videos and say what kinda genre it is! just makes it easier to read through the thread)

I just realized your profile pic is from Shaking the Habitual. Good taste.

Can you recommend anything else electronic that is nearly as good as The Knife (loaded question, I know, sorry)?

You necro'd this at a great time! Yeah my avatar is from StH which is a really awesome album and I do love The Knife, there are a few people out there doing similar things with there genres, I would recomend first checking out my blog which lists my fav songs of the year (dating from this year to 2008);

Now I know for a fact that at least Beehatch and Bro have a solid taste for music so I'm hoping there are a few more!

But the main krux of this thread is to help me pick out proper choons from this year and years passed. I've been building 'Best off 20XX' playlists since 2008, but this year has been a bit mad for me and I've not been able to really get as deep into music as I'd like too, so I'm asking for some help from you guys to help me find some proper bangers and stuff I might have missed...
here is an archive of my older lists to give you an idea of what kinda **** I'm chatting about.... anyway here is a taste of some bangers (yes I know some of these tracks are older than 2015 but I've only come across them this year) that I've been buzzing off;

You necro'd this at a great time! Yeah my avatar is from StH which is a really awesome album and I do love The Knife, there are a few people out there doing similar things with there genres, I would recomend first checking out my blog which lists my fav songs of the year (dating from this year to 2008);

Planningtorock
FKA Twigs
Death Grips

Way ahead of you on Death Grips :) But I'll check out all your recommendations.

I do really like FKA Twigs, she has such a strange sound tho is still kinda poppy, a bit like The Knife's olden days but also has some pretty dark sounds going on. She also looks like a James Bond supervillan

i am unclear as to what quantifies a music as being "dank" as opposed to regular non-dank music.

It's not exactly about what music sounds "dank" because that could mean anything. The thread is just about music that falls within an electronic spectrum.

What exactly does "dank" mean? I know with weed that entails the bud is compact, but kids these days are using the term for memes and no one can explain what it means.
I asked a millennial at work the other day and his answer was "Dank just means uhhh, that something's dank as ****." which clarified absolutely nothing.

what the **** does "millennial" mean?
