Worlds Largest Keyboard
« on: Sat, 31 October 2015, 17:37:53 »
In another thread where a beautiful very large multi-buttoned IBM Japanese keyboard was posted, a question popped up into my head, "What's is the world's largest keyboard?".

A quick google search later, I think I've found Mecca for keyboard lovers:

Apparently, it's a place in Russia:

2nd place goes to this one:

I love that giant concrete keyboard.  Also fond of the Ortek MCK-142 Pro.

This is actually the type of stuff I expected to see.  That's a seriously weird layout.  What was that one used for?

I don't know, the switches in that look like they might be really heavy, and I'm sceptical about compatibility issues :p . Never tried typing on painted concrete caps, though.

Haha! Well, now that you mention it, they might be a little on the heavy side

There's no way this is real.
IIRC it was for an April fools joke or something like that.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

that makes a bit of sense since the two foot pedals look like kick drum pedals...say, those look like drum heads too...

I love this thing.  You could program both the left and right hand sides on both sides of the board, so you could shift your hands up and down to get to all characters even with just one hand.  that numeric keypad is made for lefties though. :(

So I think I found the equivalent of that IBM board available now:

http://www.provantage.com/cherry-g86-63400euadaa~7CHER0NM.htm

It's a cherry with all programmable keys.  And its in a column format that was being discussed on here somewhere in another thread I can't find.
