Hot Swappable Switches

I remember that there was some experimentation going on with this idea a while back, but it looks like it's finally going to come to mass produced keyboards:

Could make it a lot easier for normal people to deal with chattering or otherwise failing switches, so long as the socket system doesn't simply replace the switches themselves as a source of failure...

Hmm dunno how I feel about this. Still feel like it's another potential point of failure, would prefer to keep soldering.

ydds its possible to make hot swappable switches..
but i think its hard to make it..
ive seen geekfeng make one board like that..

I think there was a project for a keyboard with dip sockets for the switches, to make them replaceable. As other have said, I think it is always better to keep them soldered. The recent problem that arouse with lower melting point switch bottoms should be solved by checking that material, not compensating it with alternate methods to connect them on the PCB.

I appreciate the novelty of this, I would jump on a few hundred of those interchangeable shaft modules and a kicad library to play with.

I can only imagine a plate design like the Poker wouldn't be ideal though, you could easily pull all your switches out simultaneously. It also appears to lack support for PCB mount switches.
