Before keyboards, before retro video games, before tabletop games, and even before fountain pens, I used to be heavily into toys. I had lots of Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers toys as a kid. When I got older, from high school through college, I parted with most of them as part of my "growing up."
After college and landing my first job, I started getting quite a bit of disposable income. So what did I do? Save it? Sorta. I blew most of it.
(College kids: When people say to save money when you're young, they really mean it.)
I looked back on nostalgia and what material items made me happy as a kid. Toys were numero uno on the list. At first it started with just collecting what I had lost. Then it got way, way out of hand.
I lusted mostly for Japanese figures, namely those by Bandai and Takara. After spending (tens of?) thousands of dollars over almost a decade, I've finally whittled it down to just a few modest collections: Microman, Figuarts, NECA, Gunpla, & MMPR Legacy.
Whew!Although I’m now on a new, mechanical slippery slope, I wanted to see if anyone else here collected figures. I know Hot Toys and Nendos seem to be pretty popular, but I was never into the 1/6th scale or cutesie figures. 1/12th was my favorite overall, and Microman is my favorite line of poseable figures.
I’m a sucker for blank/model figures, and I was ecstatic when I heard that Bandai is
finally releasing their Effect Parts figure models.
And just when I thought I was done with toys…
