PS/2 Adapter for ABS M1?
« on: Thu, 12 November 2009, 19:22:54 »
Hello, I just got an ABS M1 keyboard and would like to pick up a PS/2 adapter for it.  The couple adapters I have lying around don't work.  (Keyboard doesn't work, and num-caps-scroll lights flash.)

Can anyone recommend a source for and/or a specific USB-PS2 adapter that will work with the ABS M1 keyboard?

TIA!

How much do Blue Cubes cost? I might consider getting one to make my keyboard work more reliably (the PS/2 ports do not supply enough power all the time).

I think he means USB to PS/2, as the ABS M1 is USB. The blue cube is PS/2 to USB. I'm pretty sure if the keyboard does not support PS/2, there is no real way plug it into PS/2.

Welcome to Geekhack.

See the wiki (home page link) for PS/2 to USB adapters.   I recommend the one nicknamed the Blue Cube.

Thanks for the welcome and speedy response, ripster!

I checked out the wiki thread on PS/2 adapters.  Problem is, they're all for plugging PS/2 keyboards into USB.  The M1 is a USB keyboard, and I want to plug it into PS/2....  I'd preferrably like an adapter that will work with my PS/2 KVM, but I'd settle for an adapter that works connected to a PC....

I checked over at Elite keyboards seeing as all their keyboards come with USB to PS/2 adapters, but they don't sell the adapters separately.  :ohwell:

Sorry I wasn't more specific!

Thanks!

Yes, Viett.  I posted my previous response before seeing your post.

Hmm, I'd thought it was simpler to get a USB keyboard to work as PS/2 than it was to get a PS/2 keyboard to work as USB.  I guess it's complicated either way....  :frusty:

I'd been reading up on keyboards and saw that Costar OEM keyboards based on CST-104 include the ABS M1 and a Filco board (don't remember model number).  When I saw that Filco's over at Elite Keyboards come with USB-to-PS/2 adapters, I assumed one of those adapters would work with my M1.

Unfortunately ABS' web site has dead links, so I can't get any more info on the M1.  But ... if it's unlikely to support PS/2, I'll just use my M1 as USB and plug in a PS/2 keyboard for those times when I really need it.  :ohwell:

Might be a silly question, but did you turn the PC off before plugging in the keyboard via the adapters that you had? You need to.

Yep, I powered down the PC completely.  I guess the M1 just doesn't support PS/2.  Not the end of the world though.  It gives me an excuse to buy a Filco when I get some spare $$.

That's correct... the ABS M1 will not work with a PS/2 adapter.

Why do you need a PS/2 keyboard?
