« on: Mon, 16 November 2009, 11:04:01 »
Hi everybody, new here!

Anyway i recentley got a hold of a G80-3000. It awsome, but it's a bit dirty. So i whanted to take it apart to clean it with water. But i dunno how to. There are, "clip on" things on the front that i "uncliped" but it's still holding together in the front. Can anyone tell me what i should do?

Thanks and forgive my bad english.

Old-style or new-style case?

For the new-style case, there are clips all around.

The old-style case should come open quite easily now. You just need to push the circuit board to the front, then it will separate from the top case which can subsequently be taken off. Dead easy once you get the hang of it. When you take out the PCB, be sure to remember how the cable went into the strain relief.

The case parts can be cleaned easily with water and a bit of dish cleaning liquid, same goes for the cable. For the keycaps I would recommend sixty's method, i.e. use denture cleaning tabs in a bowl of water. Do not attack the circuit board with water, just dust it off with some big brush.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

Some 3000s have screws, some not. It's either that or some clip is still clinging.

OK i got the cuircuit board to seperate but the top case won't move and i'm not shure in which way to push it cuz i'm afraid that i might brake it.

Just wiggle the top case up and down. At some point it should come loose at the lower end. Things can be a little sticky if the board has never been opened before.

Well, you don't need to feel too bad, when I tried for the very first time I also gave up...
