Hello Hello Hello
« on: Mon, 30 November 2015, 22:31:18 »
Hi Everyone,

I had no idea this community existed till 2 weeks ago. I was at a local computer store, looking for some cheap SSD, and accidentally brushed my hand on CM Strom Rapid Fire keyboard. That was it, I felt very soothing sensation punching keys, never experienced before, and that cherry blue sound. I couldn't detach myself from the KB, spent about 30 mins just pressing random keys. I came home and spent next week just researching about different mechanical KBs. After spending almost a week reading the forum and googling about all things KB, I finally pulled a trigger on Filco Majestouch2 Ninja on Amazon for about 125 CDN. Which seemed alot for a keyboard, till I came across GMK Dolch keycaps set on massdrop. Couldn't believe that keycaps set is more expansive than KB. But I couldn't keep my mind of this color set. another week agonizing over it, I couldn't resist its pull and my wallet is now empty another 160 CDN. Its ridiculous that I have spent over 300 on KB.

Whats wrong with me, I need help!!!!!!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Filco is a good solid reliable keyboard - should last you for years.

This is a very deep rabbit hole you've slipped into.  Imagine a single keycap for $500.  One keycap!  Kinda puts a $125 keyboard into perspective :p

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I was on the fence on hhkb, wasnt too sure to either go for pro 2 or type s. After much deliberation went for type s. It will be my office desk warrior, and filco will be my home play thing. Now I am looking for hard case to carry hhkb when on the road. Any ideas where one can find it?

personally, i think the type s is a little over priced for the "difference". but hey, if u can afford it why not? as long as you're typing on the greatest keyboard ever created, we're good.

throw it all away, buy hhkb. be happy.

Received both Filco Majestouch 2 [swapped keycaps with GMK Dolch set from massdrop] and HHKB Pro 2 Type S. Have been using both for weeks.

HHKB is soooooo better. I love type s, its like typing on butter, and sound feekback on keypress is unique and pleasant. Love the form factor of HHKB and its very easy to get use to different fn and all the keys are easily reachable. No need to move hands at all. It is expansive for sure, and hope that it last lifetime.

Just found out that one of my friend is in Tokyo, asking him to send Realforce 87U Tenkeyless 55g. I will then put Filco on ebay.
