Which Model M would you choose?
« on: Fri, 20 November 2009, 21:17:06 »
I have two Model Ms and plan to give one to a friend.  The question is which one?

An older, 87 Mexican.  More loved, but still a nice keyboard:

Or a newer, 93 American.  Drainage holes, louder and cleaner:

I like 'em both (but man, the spacebar on the 93 is loud!).

Opinions?  Which has more or less cachet?

When you say  'more loved' do you mean that it's more worn out, or that you like it more than the newer one?

I wouldn't really mind the difference between them; I bet they both feel perfectly fine.

I do the same too. (I've only given away stick rubber dome keyboards)

I meant "more loved" as "more worn out" and a bit less clean.  However the typing is a touch quieter and still feels fine, and the spacebar doesn't sound like a sledehammer.

In the end I basically tossed a coin and gave away the 87 and kept the 93.

Thanks for the advice, once again!

A

The 93 was probably the better keep considering that it has the drainage channels.

I'm pretty sure you could swap those labels around. Or even just swap the front covers... I think the old Black logo looks nicer anyway.

I really wouldn't be surprised at all if that was true...

Although I notice that he has double piece keycaps on all his 42H1292s, when alot of the ones on Clickykeyboards only have single piece ones. He probably just has a stack of keycaps from defunct boards that he puts on to working ones.

All I know is that when I order a keyboard from him, it gets here quick with no questions asked at the customs (he marks all overseas packages as gifts even if you don't ask)
