1206 SMD LED question
« on: Thu, 31 December 2015, 12:19:51 »
Hey Guys

the 1206 SMD LED is a led that work on GON TKL v2 pcbs. I recently bought a gon from another user but the smd leds that are installed aren't bright enough for my liking.

my question is if there is another smd led that is very bright with the same dimensions as the 1206.

any info is appreciated thanks

You might want to try using a different resistor value to increase the brightness. Lesser resistance means more power to the leds

1330???

Thats really high, are you sure you don't mean 133 ohm? 133 is more normal and should be more brightness than you'd ever need.

Okay yeah that's 133 ohms which is normal. That's strange then that they're not bright enough.

1206 is the correct size of smd led too. You might have just got a bad bunch?

It might just be me but they are no where near as bright as the 2x3x4 led that goes on the switch but then again it is a much bigger led.

I guess I can buy some smd led's from aliexpress theyre pretty cheap to test them out.

Is it me or is that SMD LED sideways? I would personally redo it completely show the light shines directly up.

Edit: I have never used a GON but I realized that it may be to direct the light towards the sides of the acrylic case, either way the soldering doesn't look too good.

They're sideways because you want the light to be facing outwards to produce the underglow effect. They are not as bright as 2x3x4 but close. Have you manually maximized your light settings via nerdy Gui?

Looking at other GON builds it is pretty common to solder the smd sideways to make sure the light is reflecting towards the acrylic middle piece.

Yeah I just realized that after the fact, actually edited my post and then realized you commented as well haha. The resistors are definitely the right ones you need for SMD LEDs, it seems kind of odd that it's not that bright. Do you mind showing a pic with LED on?

now that I look at it closely you are right lol. I will redo the solder but I need some wick to remove that solder pretty hard to reach with a sucker.

You turned the brightness all the way up in the program right? Obvious question but just making sure.

Hmm okay. Well yeah, might be a bad connection or could try different 1206 leds.
